Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Educational Sign Language Interpreter to join our school community in Baton Rouge. In this role, you will provide high-quality interpreting services to support students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring they have equal access to classroom instruction, extracurricular activities, and school communications.

Responsibilities
  • Provide accurate and clear interpretation between spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL) during classroom instruction, meetings, and school activities.

  • Support students in both academic and social settings to facilitate inclusion and participation.

  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to ensure effective communication strategies are in place.

  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional codes of ethics (RID/NAD).

  • Adapt interpreting style to suit the age, developmental level, and communication needs of students.

  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute insights related to communication support.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelors degree preferred)

  • Current EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score of 3.5 or higher, RID certification, or equivalent state-recognized credential

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English

  • Experience working in educational settings preferred

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
