Overview
Enters and retrieves data from computer.
Under direct supervision, performs routine clerical duties such as specimen receiving, logging, specimen transport, patient charting, filing data retrieval, record keeping and answering telephone inquiries from Doctors.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and other employees. Interacts professionally, courteously, and appropriately with patients, visitors and other employees. Behaves in a manner consistent with maintaining and furthering a positive public perception of Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center and its employees.
- Contributes to and participates in the Performance/Quality Improvement activities of the assigned department. Contribution and participation includes data collection, analysis, implementation of and compliance with risk management and claims activities, support of and participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, consistent adherence to the specific rules and regulations of the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center (a) Safety and Security Policies, (b) Risk Management: Incident and Occurrence Reporting, (c) Infection Control Policies and Procedures and (d) Patient and Customer Service.
- Enters and retrieves data from computer.
- Maintains files of records, logs, forms and general correspondence in a neat and orderly fashion and in accordance with established record and filing systems.
- Matches specimens and request forms, numbers or accessions them and records tests requested and date into log book or PC.
- Assists in the receipt of specimens, their clerical checking, the sorting of specimens and their transport, if necessary, to areas of the laboratory outside the receiving laboratory area.
- Sorts specimens and transport them to other areas.
- Sorts and divides all patient reports, files them into correct bins prior to transporting of the reports to the nursing units.
- Clocks requests into laboratory and all reports are clocked in and out of the laboratory.
- Files report in the receiving area into PC and accesses them when authorized personnel request them.
- Prepares and separates serum for all specimens with documentation for all outside reference labs. Reports are received in triplicate by mail or from the on-site printer are separated, filed and charted.
- Maintains general order and cleanliness of the area.
- Assists in preparing records and other data for microfilming or transmittal to other hospitals.
- Answers telephones, takes and relays messages to appropriate personnel.
Qualifications
- One (1) year related experience preferred.
- High School or GED
- Computer literacy
