A Weekend Data Engineer Contract is a temporary or freelance position where a data engineer works primarily on weekends. These roles typically involve building, maintaining, or optimizing data pipelines and databases, ensuring data quality, and supporting analytics needs during weekend shifts. This setup is often used by companies that require continuous data operations or have projects with tight deadlines. Weekend contracts can provide flexibility for both the engineer and the employer, and may be ideal for those seeking additional income or balancing other commitments.

To thrive as a Weekend Data Engineer Contractor, you need strong proficiency in data engineering principles, including ETL processes, database management, and programming languages like Python or SQL, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with cloud platforms (such as AWS or Azure), big data tools (like Spark or Hadoop), and relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics) is typically required. Strong problem-solving, effective communication, and the ability to work independently are crucial soft skills for this role. These skills and qualifications ensure high-quality, reliable data solutions are delivered efficiently during limited weekend hours, meeting project deadlines and client expectations.

What are some common challenges faced by Weekend Data Engineer Contractors, and how can they overcome them?

Weekend Data Engineer Contractors often encounter challenges such as limited access to stakeholders, tight turnaround times, and ensuring smooth handovers with weekday teams. To address these, clear documentation, proactive communication, and strong version control practices are essential. Working autonomously but staying aligned with the broader data engineering team helps ensure continuity and quality in deliverables.

Job description

Daymark Health is a value-based oncology company redefining the cancer care experience for patients, providers, and health plans. Daymark's comprehensive, personalized cancer care platform empowers patients with dedicated care navigation, symptom-focused support, behavioral health care, and social resources. Combined with evidence-based health interventions and a hybrid in-person + virtual care model, Daymark is improving the overall cancer experience for patients, providers, and health plans – and setting a new standard in cancer care.

Daymark's groundbreaking approach is led by CEO Dr. Justin Bekelman, a pioneer in transforming cancer care, alongside some of the nation's foremost leaders in oncology and value-based care. Daymark Health is backed by Maverick Ventures, Yosemite, Oncology Ventures, Healthier Capital, Blue Venture Fund, and Healthcare Foundry.

Be cautious of recruitment fraud, and always confirm that communications are coming from an official Daymark Health email.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

At Daymark Health, we are transforming how data drives decision-making in healthcare. We are seeking a Data Engineer who is passionate about building scalable, impactful data pipelines, working with complex healthcare datasets, and contributing to Daymark's mission. Working very closely with Finance and Clinical leaders, you will play a key role in shaping the foundation of our data operations. In this role, you will:

  • Support the deployment of scalable infrastructure and tooling (e.g. Snowflake, dbt, AWS, Sigma) to support analytics, reporting, and real-time data exchange with providers and partners.
  • Drive high-impact analyses across claims, EHR, and real-time patient activity data, translating complex data into clear insights that inform care delivery and payer collaboration.
  • Build and scale robust data pipelines and governance practices to ensure data integrity, availability, and compliance across the organization.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Clinical, and external teams to prioritize data initiatives that advance Daymark's mission and scale our value-based care model
  • Develop and maintain real-time analytics capabilities to monitor key metrics and inform strategic decisions.
  • Collaborate with engineering and other teams to integrate analytics into production systems.
  • Provide ongoing insights from partner and provider data that directly impact patient outcomes and business success.
  • Align data infrastructure to be flexible in organization's strategic priorities (i.e., pharma data, Fee-for-service, etc.)
  • Augment analytics processes with AI use cases

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Experience: You bring 4+ years of experience in data engineering, with a strong technical foundation and track record of building scalable data systems in cloud environments. You've implemented modern data stacks including Snowflake, AWS, dbt, and other best-in-class tools.
  • Healthcare data expertise: You have a deep understanding of healthcare data—particularly claims, EMR, and patient-generated health data—and how to translate it into insights that drive care delivery, cost reduction, and payer-provider alignment. You've worked with actuarial teams or value-based care leaders to model risk, evaluate performance, and inform contract design or shared savings arrangements.
  • Strategic problem-solver: You thrive in ambiguity and are energized by building clarity from complexity. You combine hands-on technical ability with a systems-thinking mindset to design solutions that scale.
  • Collaborative operator: You're a strong communicator and cross-functional partner who can navigate between technical teams and clinical leaders to drive results.
  • Curiosity and innovation: You constantly seek better ways to unlock the value of data. You stay current with emerging tools and methodologies and bring a creative, experimental approach to solving problems.
  • Mission-first: You are driven by a desire to improve the healthcare system and deeply aligned with Daymark's mission to transform cancer care for patients, families, and providers.

Additional Information

The expected compensation for this role is $140,000 to $160,000 annually, depending on location & experience.
