Job description

Reporting to the Technical Product Owner, Enterprise POS, the Business Data Analyst role translates business questions from the Business Units, CoEs, CoCs, and Global Business Solutins into well-formed requirements and user stories and serves as the platform's first line of quality by profiling sources, developing test cases, and running QA and UAT before anything reaches enterprise release. The Business Data Analyst is also the operational steward of product attribution providing hands-on hierarchy management during platform build-out, evolving into a hierarchy-evolution partnership with the Enterprise Data Architect as the governed masters mature.
What You'll Own
Business Requirements & User Stories
  • Translate business questions from BUs, Commercial Excellence, Finance, Supply Chain, and other key partners into data and reporting requirements.

  • Write business-facing user stories with testable acceptance criteria.

  • Document business logic, metric definitions, and data dictionaries for assigned domains.

  • Maintain traceability from business requirements to delivered assets.

Data Profiling, QA & UAT
  • Profile new and existing data sources using SQL and built-in profiling tooling for completeness, consistency, and fitness for intended business use.

  • Develop test cases and acceptance criteria for POS data products, maintained as permanent regression sets.

  • Execute QA and UAT, reconciling metrics against trusted baselines before enterprise release.

  • Surface profiling and QA findings to the Technical Product Owner, Enterprise Data Architect and delivery leads as the evidence base for governance discussions and decisions.

Demand Shaping & Enterprise Asset Reuse
  • Evaluate business requests against existing assets championing data product reuse.

  • Feed prioritized demand and use cases to the Technical Product Owner with clear business context.

  • Participate in intake triage and discovery spikes for unprofiled sources.

Attribution & Hierarchy Stewardship
  • Actively manage product hierarchies and attribution mappings during platform build-out, serving as operational owner of current-state attribution.

  • Serve as the analytics-facing consumer of the governed masters and attribution crosswalk, surfacing gaps to the Enterprise Data Architect.

  • Partner with the Enterprise Data Architect on product hierarchy evolution including category changes, item onboarding gaps, and rules needing revision, with changes approved through the Architect's change process.

  • Validate downstream impact of hierarchy and attribution changes before they are promoted.

Support BU Platform Configuration
  • Configure BU-specific data and reporting views within the enterprise POS platform to solve challenges where a standard or common solution is not feasible.

  • Partner with the BI Delivery Leader to keep BU views aligned to the enterprise foundation.

  • Analyze usage and feedback to recommend enhancements or retirement.

Documentation & Knowledge Management
  • Own requirements, user stories, test cases, UAT results, and data dictionaries for assigned domains.

  • Document attribution and hierarchy decisions made during transitional stewardship so tribal knowledge is codified, not recreated.

  • Contribute definitions and business logic to the enterprise knowledge base.

  • Champion a "documented once, reused everywhere" culture from the demand side.

Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Substantial experience as a business or data analyst in an analytics environment, with demonstrated requirements-to-delivery ownership.

  • Proven experience developing and executing structured QA and UAT for data products.

  • Experience working directly and autonomously with stakeholders across multiple business functions.

Skills & Competencies
  • Rigorous and evidence-driven. Treats reconciliation against trusted baselines as the standard of proof.

  • Clear, precise writer of requirements, stories, and acceptance criteria.

  • Comfortable operating with significant autonomy across competing stakeholder groups.

  • Curious about the "why" behind business questions; skilled at shaping raw asks into well-formed demand.

  • Patient, effective enabler of self-serve business users.

Technical Knowledge
  • Strong SQL for independent data profiling, reconciliation, and QA.

  • Power BI proficiency sufficient to build governed self-serve views on an enterprise semantic layer.

  • Familiarity with product hierarchies and master data concepts.

  • Working knowledge of Agile story and backlog tooling (Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar).

  • Understanding of data quality and testing practices for data products.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Retail, POS, or syndicated data experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience with data profiling or quality tooling and test frameworks.

  • Exposure to Python for analysis.

  • Prior experience supporting product attribution, item mapping, or hierarchy management.
