Minimum Requirements Note: Preference will be given to BSO employees. High school diploma or equivalent. An evaluation of a foreign high school diploma may be required.

One (1) year of previous experience and/or training involving mail room, mail operations, or related delivery/distribution functions. Must possess and maintain throughout employment, a valid Florida driver license without any restrictions affecting job performance. Driver license must show current address.

All candidates must submit with the application, a Certified Department of Motor Vehicles "entire" driving history. Florida driving histories can be obtained at any courthouse in Broward County. Three (3) year, seven (7) year, and online Florida driving history records will not be accepted.

If you have possessed a driver's license in any other state in the past 7 years you will need to submit an "entire" driving history from that state. For non-Florida driving histories, please contact that state's division of motor vehicles The search date for all driving histories must be within one month of the date the application for employment is received by the Bureau of Human Resources. Such experience must be clearly documented on the application. Nature of Work Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to deliver, dispatch and retrieve mail, parcels, packages and other items related to the daily mail operations of the Sheriff's Office. Employees in this classification perform mail courier and clerical support duties, with responsibility for the pickup, scheduling, recording, distribution, and delivery of inter/intra-departmental mail products.

Work includes receiving, processing, and ensuring proper postage/packaging for out-going mail and related out-going distributions. Performs related work as directed. Essential Functions/Physical Requirements The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification.

It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position. Provides for pick-up, scheduling, recording, receipt, and delivery of inter/intra-departmental mail, packages, and parcels in a timely manner.

Inspects incoming mail, parcels and packages for suspicious appearance to protect against potential chemical, biological or other external threats to the agency. Opens, sorts, and arranges items for proper and timely inter/intra-departmental distribution and delivery. Receives, sorts, and processes daily outgoing mail; determines postage and prepares mail, packages, and parcels in accordance with US Post Office standards.

Operates an agency vehicle in the pick-up and distribution of mail items, when applicable to the functional facilities and/or assigned route. Generates and files a variety of reports and records as related to assigned courier function. Performs related duties as directed.

Tasks involve the intermittent performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). Occasionally may require the ability to lift heavier items up to (100) pounds. May require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects.

Some tasks are performed in an office environment where proper provisions are in place in terms of employee security and protection. When operating an agency vehicle, work includes exposure to daily traffic conditions. Due to the nature and location of the work environment, tasks include potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements, e.g., heat, humidity, inclement weather

Some tasks include working around moving parts, carts, and materials handling where physical risks are predictable and/or controllable by observance of standard safety precautions. Tasks may be performed in a corrections environment where proper provisions are in place in terms of employee security and protection. Due to the nature and location of the work environment, tasks include potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements consistent with routine conditions in a corrections detainment environment.
