What is a weekend copywriter?

Weekend copywriters are professionals who create written content, such as advertisements, articles, website copy, or social media posts, specifically during the weekends. They may work for agencies, companies, or as freelancers to meet deadlines, handle urgent projects, or provide coverage when regular staff are off. Weekend copywriters need strong writing skills, adaptability, and the ability to manage tight timelines. This role is ideal for those who prefer flexible schedules or want to supplement their income outside of traditional work hours.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a weekend copywriter?

To thrive as a Weekend Copywriter, you need strong writing, editing, and research skills, often supported by a degree in communications, journalism, or a related field. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), SEO tools, and digital publishing platforms is typically required. Creativity, time management, and the ability to work independently under tight deadlines are crucial soft skills. These abilities ensure high-quality, engaging content is delivered reliably on weekends, supporting continuous brand engagement and marketing objectives.

What challenges do weekend copywriters face and how can they be managed?

Weekend copywriters often work under tight deadlines and may need to handle last-minute requests or urgent campaigns, especially in fast-paced industries like digital marketing or news media. Balancing multiple projects while maintaining creativity and accuracy can be challenging, particularly when collaborating remotely with teams that may have limited availability on weekends. Effective time management, clear communication with project managers, and setting expectations about deliverables are key strategies for success. Many weekend copywriters also use project management tools to stay organized and ensure all assigned tasks are completed on schedule.

We opened our doors in 1998 (as Focus Multimedia). We got our start building websites and have expanded into a full-service advertising agency, helping our clients take advantage of the fundamental changes taking place in the marketing world – the emergence of digital technologies, expanded multiculturalism, and the transformative impact of social media.

  • Writing and editing content for a wide range of marketing and communication materials.
  • Providing the ability to evaluate images and layouts produced by the Graphic Designers to ensure they align with your vision and the written concept.
  • Collaborating with account managers, research, project managers and creative staff from concept development to final product delivery.
  • Presenting copy concepts and final deliverables to the Creative Director, internal teams or stakeholders, and ultimately to clients. Occasionally participating in client pitches.
  • Revising copy content based on feedback from internal teams and/or external sources.
  • Writing for various platforms and channels with versatility and creativity.

What You'll Bring:

  • Experience working in highly collaborative, integrated teams at mid-size advertising or digital agencies.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field of study.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of copywriting experience, ideally in advertising or digital agencies.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Power Point.
  • Exceptional grammar skills and a strong understanding of English language rules.
  • Solid understanding of digital interfaces, responsive design (desktop, tablet, mobile), interactivity, and basic UX/UI principles.
  • Outstanding conceptual thinking and creativity.
  • Ability to oversee an entire project, beyond the copywriting portion.
  • Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently and make decisions when needed.
