What is a weekend content writer?

Weekend Content Writers are professionals who create written content for websites, blogs, social media, and other digital platforms specifically during weekends. Their role often involves researching topics, writing articles, editing, and sometimes publishing content to ensure a steady flow of material when many regular staff may be off. Weekend Content Writers are valuable for companies that want to maintain audience engagement and traffic even on weekends. They may work as freelancers or as part-time employees, and their work helps businesses stay relevant and active outside of standard business hours.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend content writer?

To thrive as a Weekend Content Writer, you need strong writing, research, and editing skills, often supported by a degree in English, journalism, or a related field. Content Marketer
Summertown Metals is seeking a skilled Content Marketer to lead our organic marketing efforts and help strengthen the company's brand across digital platforms.
This role will be responsible for developing useful, customer-focused content, growing our owned audiences, improving organic visibility, and supporting potential customers throughout their buying journey. The position will also support the marketing needs of the assigned local branch and help ensure regional marketing strategies align with local priorities.
The ideal candidate is a strong writer and strategic thinker who understands how content, social media, email marketing, SEO, brand messaging, and local branch marketing work together to drive long-term growth.
Key Responsibilities
• Own and manage the company's content strategy and editorial calendar.
• Write and oversee blogs, guides, videos, case studies, customer stories, and other educational content.
• Manage organic social media content across company platforms.
• Plan and execute email marketing campaigns, newsletters, and automated email sequences.
• Maintain a consistent brand voice and messaging across all marketing channels.
• Identify SEO opportunities and optimize website content for traditional search engines and AI-powered search platforms.
• Partner with sales and other departments to develop customer-focused marketing resources.
• Turn customer questions, industry trends, and sales insights into valuable content.
• Analyze content, social media, email, and website performance.
• Recommend and implement improvements based on performance data.
• Serve as a liaison between local branch leadership and the broader regional marketing strategy.
• Work with branch leadership to identify local marketing needs, priorities, events, promotions, and community opportunities.
• Help coordinate, prepare, set up, and represent the company at assigned local branch events.
• Coordinate marketing materials for local events, including signage, banners, displays, printed materials, promotional items, and digital support.
• Own and maintain the assigned local branch marketing budget.
• Track branch marketing expenses and complete monthly budget reconciliation.
• Ensure local branch marketing activities remain aligned with approved budgets and regional marketing priorities.
• Stay current on industry trends, customer needs, digital marketing practices, and changes in online search behavior.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Professional experience in content marketing, digital marketing, communications, or a related role.
• Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills.
• Experience managing organic social media for a business or organization.
• Experience creating and managing email marketing campaigns and automations.
• Working knowledge of SEO, keyword research, and website content optimization.
• Understanding of how content is discovered through AI search tools and answer engines.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, budgets, and content priorities.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to brand consistency.
• Ability to work collaboratively with sales, branch leadership, marketing, and other departments.
• Comfortable using performance data to evaluate results and guide future decisions.
• Willingness to attend, set up, and support local events as needed, including occasional evening or weekend events.
Preferred Experience
• Experience with website content management systems.
• Experience with marketing automation or email marketing platforms.
• Experience creating video content or coordinating video production.
• Experience managing or reconciling marketing budgets.
• Experience supporting local events, community engagement, or branch-level marketing.
• Experience developing content for construction, manufacturing, homebuilding, building materials, or a related industry.
• Familiarity with analytics and SEO tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Semrush, Ahrefs, or similar platforms.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role means consistently producing valuable content that answers customer questions, strengthens the Summertown Metals brand, improves organic visibility, grows our audiences, and provides the sales team with resources that help customers make informed buying decisions.
Success also includes maintaining strong communication with local branch leadership, effectively supporting local events and marketing initiatives, and accurately managing and reconciling the branch marketing budget each month.
