We provide civil/site design and land surveying, environmental, geotechnical, construction administration & inspection, accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, roadway/bridge design, A/V system design, troubleshooting and installation, and specialized testing services to the construction industry.

We are looking for a Technician | Inspector who will play a key role in performing construction engineering technician services related to earthwork, concrete, asphalt and utility construction for DOT, municipalities, and private sector clients.

Highlights:

  • The role is based out of our Shelbyville office – east of Louisville
  • Typical travel radius: 90 miles from the Shelbyville office
  • Limited overnight travel – usually 10% of the time.
  • Primarily a day shift with less than 5% night work
  • Work schedule: typically Monday through Friday, but occasional weekend opportunities (@ 1 Saturday/month during peak construction season)
  • Fleet vehicle provided for traveling between office to project(s)

Responsibilities:

  • Perform construction engineering services related to earthwork, concrete, asphalt and utility construction for DOT, municipalities, and private sector clients.
  • Responsible for inspecting and reporting on specific aspects of construction works in progress, such as concrete pours, rebar placement, pipe replacements as examples.
  • May be responsible for inspection and sampling of construction materials.
  • Perform computations with formulas, plots data and draws simple curves and graphs.
  • Assists Engineers in field during soil and materials investigations.
  • Ensures that job site tests/observations, including quality control, quality assurance, and verifications are performed in accordance with the standard test/observation methods, project specifications and other contract documents.
  • May perform lab testing and observation of soils, concrete and asphalt.
  • Performs inspections for construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with state specifications, plans, and/or proposals for roadway work, roadway, or pavement.
  • Verifies plan quantities and calculations as bid plans.
  • Prepares and maintains project records and reports.
  • May notify the Contractor or the Project Engineer of non-conforming work.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of engineering, construction, testing and inspection principles.
  • Knowledge of materials and lab testing as well as standard testing and observation methods.
  • Knowledge and understanding of construction or engineering services in local areas.
  • Skill in performing quality control initiatives
  • Skill in testing performance and lab reporting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to perform engineering and construction field testing.
  • Ability to write reports and maintain records.
  • Ability to work in external environment conditions during difficult weather
  • Ability to provide status updates independently when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Technical school or Community college graduate preferred.
  • Associate degree in related field with at least 2 years’ experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred.
  • 2-3 years of construction inspection and testing experience, must be familiar with highway construction specifications and have previous field experience.

Education/Certifications:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred.
  • ACI Grade I, DOT Asphalt Tech, NICET Level II Soils, ICC Special inspections and/or CWI/NDT inspectors, preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.

Physical Requirements: Primary work location is in the field and will require candidate to stand for extended periods. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
