Job description

MLCO Construction

Local Construction Superintendent -- Wichita

Location: Wichita, KS. This position is based full-time at the Wichita project site. No nationwide travel is required.

Lead a Major Project Without Living on the Road.

MLCO Construction is a Chicago-headquartered general contractor and design-builder specializing in storage and commercial construction projects throughout the United States. Our team delivers self-storage, RV storage, industrial outdoor storage, flex-bay facilities, adaptive-reuse projects, and ground-up commercial construction. We bring together experienced professionals, modern technology, and a hospitality-minded approach to create strong relationships and successful project outcomes.

MLCO Construction is hiring a local Construction Superintendent to lead a project in the Wichita, Kansas area. Unlike MLCO's traveling superintendent positions, this role is intended to remain local to Wichita and does not require nationwide project travel.

The Superintendent will take ownership of day-to-day field operations, coordinate subcontractors, manage schedules, oversee quality and safety, and work closely with the assigned Project Manager. This position is ideal for an experienced field leader who wants the responsibility of managing a commercial construction project while remaining based in the Wichita community. The project may include significant civil and sitework components, underground utilities, concrete, asphalt, steel erection, and pre-engineered metal building construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily construction activities at the Wichita project site.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, inspections, deliveries, and equipment.
  • Maintain the project schedule and communicate upcoming manpower and material needs.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance, workmanship, safety, and schedule compliance.
  • Review drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and project documentation.
  • Maintain daily reports, progress photographs, and project records in Procore.
  • Conduct subcontractor coordination and safety meetings.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager to manage schedule, quality, field conditions, and overall project performance.
  • Coordinate civil work, underground utilities, concrete, asphalt, steel erection, building installation, and finishing scopes.
  • Identify field conflicts or potential delays and resolve them proactively.
  • Coordinate municipal inspections, testing agencies, utilities, and project closeout.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, professional, and safe jobsite.
  • Represent MLCO professionally with clients, subcontractors, inspectors, and community stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of commercial construction superintendent experience preferred.
  • Experience managing commercial projects valued between approximately $2 million and $15 million preferred.
  • Experience with pre-engineered metal buildings, steel erection, civil construction, utilities, concrete, or asphalt is beneficial.
  • Experience managing larger sites or multi-building developments is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Procore is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand plans, specifications, schedules, and construction documents.
  • Experience using Procore for daily logs, RFIs, submittals, scheduling, and project documentation.
  • Strong leadership and subcontractor management skills.
  • Ability to organize multiple scopes of work and maintain project momentum.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and comfortable making field decisions.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to take ownership.
  • Must live in or be able to commute reliably to the Wichita, Kansas project area.
  • Valid driver's license.

Pay and Benefits

  • Full-time, W-2 Employment
  • Competitive base salary depending on experience.
  • Performance bonus targeted at approximately 25% of base salary, based on defined project and team performance criteria.
  • Eligible for company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits.
  • Employee-contribution 401(k) plan.
  • Local position with no nationwide project travel required.
  • Company vehicle, vehicle allowance, or mileage support.
  • Professional development and mentorship opportunities.
  • Opportunity to grow with a lean and expanding national construction company.
  • Schedule: Full-time. Monday-Friday with occasional evenings or weekends as required by construction schedules.

Why MLCO Construction?

MLCO offers the opportunity to lead a meaningful commercial project without committing to a nationwide travel schedule. You will be trusted to manage the field, coordinate the team, and take ownership of project results while working closely with an experienced Project Manager. Our flat structure gives capable leaders direct access to decision-makers, and our hospitality mindset encourages respectful, long-term relationships with every project partner. You will join a growing company that values initiative, teamwork, technology, and measurable performance.
