Job description

Reports to: Installation Supervisor / Project Manager

Job Summary:

Install, maintain, and repair illuminated and electrical signage for commercial and retail customers

Ensure installations meet electrical codes, safety standards, and client specifications while delivering high-quality, on-time work.

Key Responsibilities: Read and interpret installation drawings, wiring diagrams, and specifications. Install electrical signs, channel letters, box signs, pylon signs, LED displays, and related mounting hardware. Run conduit, pull wire, make electrical connections, splice wiring, and connect to building power following NEC and local codes. Mount sign faces and trim, secure supports, and ensure proper alignment and weatherproofing. Test and commission lighting systems, perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs. Perform routine maintenance, lamp/LED module replacement, ballast/driver replacement, and cleaning. Coordinate with general contractors, site managers, and electricians; obtain permits or inspections as required. Operate aerial lifts, ladders, scaffold, and hand/power tools safely; follow fall protection and lock-out/tag-out procedures. Maintain accurate job documentation: time sheets, materials used, installation reports, and photos. Ensure job sites are clean and safe; protect customer property. Provide excellent customer service and explain basic operation/maintenance to clients.


Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years’ experience installing electrical signage, illuminated displays, or related electrical/low-voltage installations.
  • Familiarity with NEC (National Electrical Code) and local electrical permitting/inspection processes.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; ability to travel to job sites.
  • Comfortable working at heights and in outdoor conditions.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly and perform physical tasks for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Journeyman electrician or electrical technician certification (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience with LED drivers, transformers, and low-voltage control systems.
  • OSHA 10/30, aerial lift, and fall-protection certifications.
  • Experience with metal fabrication, welding, or sign assembly.
  • Familiarity with programmable sign controllers and digital message centers.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Good communication and customer-service skills.
  • Able to read and follow technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Team player with capacity to work independently when required.

Working Conditions: Outdoor and indoor work; exposure to weather, heights, and construction sites. Frequent use of aerial lifts, ladders, and scaffolding. Schedule may include early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends or emergency call-outs. Compensation: Competitive hourly wage DOE, with overtime as applicable.
