Job description

Are you a hands-on software tester who enjoys building automation, troubleshooting complex issues and helping teams deliver high-quality applications? We’re looking for an Automation Tester to join our Enterprise Technology Group and help strengthen our automated testing capabilities across multiple applications.

In this role, you’ll develop and maintain automated test scripts, execute functional and regression testing, identify and document defects, and collaborate with technical and business partners throughout the software development life cycle. You’ll work in an Agile environment where testing begins early, quality is a shared responsibility and team members are expected to take ownership of their work.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who combines strong technical testing skills with curiosity, collaboration and a continuous improvement mindset.

This is a full-time, on-site position, working approximately 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday during regular business hours. Additional evening or weekend hours may occasionally be needed during peak project periods or to meet testing deadlines.

As an Automation Tester, you’ll support testing across multiple applications, including mobile and insurance-related applications. You’ll help expand automation coverage while ensuring new and existing functionality performs as expected.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts using Java or Python within an established test automation framework.
  • Build automation for new functionality and contribute to ongoing automated regression testing.
  • Execute automated test suites, analyze failures, identify root causes and troubleshoot issues.
  • Develop manual and automated test cases based on business requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Create test data and procedures that provide appropriate coverage across functional, regression and integration testing.
  • Perform API, UI and data validation testing as needed.
  • Write and use SQL queries to support testing and data validation.
  • Document defects, track them through resolution and communicate testing risks, issues and results to project teams.
  • Participate in code reviews, user story refinement and other Agile ceremonies.
  • Coordinate test execution, environments and schedules to help projects meet established milestones.
  • Collaborate with developers, business stakeholders, delivery partners and other testers to integrate quality throughout the development process.
  • Estimate testing and automation effort and communicate progress against delivery timelines.
  • Maintain testing scripts, cases and other artifacts within designated repositories.

What Makes You Successful

Success in this role requires more than executing predefined test scripts. You’ll need to understand business and technical requirements, translate them into effective test cases and determine how best to validate application functionality.

You’ll be successful if you can take ownership of your testing work, develop reliable automation, identify gaps in coverage and troubleshoot failures without waiting for every task to be assigned. Because the team works in Agile sprint cycles, you’ll also need to balance deadlines with thorough testing and communicate quickly when risks or issues arise.

Our team values technical expertise, collaboration, ownership, communication and continuous learning. You should be comfortable working across teams and partnering with both technical and business-focused colleagues.

Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information technology or a related field and at least four years of professional software testing experience, including at least two years of test automation development.
  • Experience developing test automation scripts using Java or Python.
  • Experience developing automation rather than relying solely on record-and-playback testing tools.
  • Knowledge of SQL and experience writing queries.
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming concepts.
  • Knowledge of the software development life cycle and software testing life cycle.
  • Ability to develop manual test cases from requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Experience identifying, documenting and tracking defects through resolution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a cross-functional team.

 Preferred

  • Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, information technology or a related field and at least two years of professional software testing experience, including at least one year of test automation development.
  • Java-based UI or API test automation.
  • Selenium or similar functional test automation tools.
  • REST API testing and JUnit.
  • Automated regression, functional and integration testing.
  • Mobile application testing.
  • Data validation using SQL, ETL testing tools, QuerySurge or similar technologies.
  • Performance or load testing.
  • Agile or Scrum development environments.
  • Insurance or financial services applications.
  • Microsoft Excel macros using VBA.
