Job description

Duties Description The Environmental Engineering Technician 1 will serve as an integral part of the Bureau of Air Quality Surveillance's Laboratory Services Section in Rensselaer, NY. Primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: Coordinating and documenting incoming and outgoing sample shipments and supplies. Log in samples and transport to the laboratory.

Cleaning sampling canisters and exchanging liquid Nitrogen dewars. Assist with canister stability and certification studies. Assisting other laboratory personnel in day-to-day activities related to air monitoring.

Some duties may require use of a ladder. Requires lifting and/or moving of equipment up to 50lbs 10% travel. Essential Functions: Must be physically able to perform the duties assigned.

Possession of a valid driver's license is required. Must be able to drive a truck or van and capable of loading and unloading vehicles. Must be able to operate a computer and possess knowledge of required technical computer programs.

Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment and climb ladders. Minimum Qualifications (A) Completion of at least 18 semester credit hours in any combination of the following courses: engineering, such as civil, chemical, electrical, mechanical, aeronautical and/or sanitary; public health; environmental and/or engineering technology; drafting; mathematics; surveying; computer science; environmental science; and/or the natural and physical sciences; YOU MUST SUBMIT A LIST OF QUALIFYING COURSES WITH YOUR APPLICATION. Include the course title, number of semester credit hours per course, name of college or university and date (or expected date) of completion.

OR (B) graduation from a high school technical education program in technical aeronautics, technical architectural drafting and building construction, technical chemistry, industrial chemistry, technical electricity/electronics, technical mechanical design and construction, technical structural drafting and design or technical instrumentation and control systems, computer circuitry; OR (C) Four years of experience performing engineering technician work in aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical, or sanitary engineering technology; or environmental technology; or as a surveyor or drafter. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Summa canisters and knowledge of the TO15 program and laboratory experience. This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2027, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.

Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
