Description

The CNC Programmer is responsible for developing, editing, optimizing, and supporting CNC machining programs to ensure safe, efficient, and repeatable manufacturing processes. This role works closely with production, quality, maintenance, and engineering teams to support machining operations, improve productivity, reduce downtime, and maintain product quality standards.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on machining knowledge combined with CNC programming and troubleshooting experience in a manufacturing environment.


Main Responsibilities

Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs for turning, milling, and other machining operations using CAM software (SolidCAM preferred).

Support CNC machine setup and prove-out activities to ensure programs run safely and efficiently in production.

Create and maintain setup sheets, tooling sheets, and machining documentation.

Troubleshoot CNC machining and programming issues related to tooling, machine performance, cycle time, and part quality.

Modify feeds, speeds, tooling paths, and machining parameters to improve efficiency, tooling life, and process consistency.

Collaborate with production personnel, machinists, quality, and engineering teams to support continuous improvement initiatives and reduce downtime.

Assist with first article runs, validation activities, and support implementation of machining process improvements.

Support tooling selection, tool life optimization, and fixture improvement activities.

Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and GD&T requirements to ensure machining processes meet design intent and quality standards.

Perform or support SPC checks and basic process verification activities as required.

Recognize improper machine functionality and coordinate repair or maintenance support when necessary.

Maintain compliance with company safety procedures, quality standards, and HSE requirements.

Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives and support standardization of machining processes.

Participate in additional duties and projects as assigned by leadership.

Requirements

Required

  • Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in CNC machining, manufacturing technology, or related field.
  • 3+ years of CNC programming and machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience programming CNC turning and milling equipment.
  • Proficiency with CAM software such as SolidCAM, Mastercam, or similar systems.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or other CAD software.
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, cutting tools, feeds and speeds, and tooling optimization.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience with CNC machines and machining processes.
  • Knowledge of SPC, metrology equipment, and process verification methods.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting cross-functional teams.

Preferred

  • Experience with Swiss-style CNC machining.
  • Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience supporting new product introduction or machining validation activities.
  • Knowledge of Shop Floor Systems and manufacturing documentation processes.
