Job Summary

The Desktop Support System Administrator plays a crucial role in maintaining, optimizing, and securing IT systems to ensure seamless daily operations for end-users. This position is responsible for troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues, managing system security, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies.
The ideal candidate will configure, monitor, and troubleshoot servers, networks, workstations, and security systems, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and cybersecurity.

Shift: Monday-Thursday 7:00AM - 5:30PM, Occasional weekend and on-call as needed

Primary Responsibilities

Desktop Support:
• Provide Tier 1/2 technical support, troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues for end-users.
• Manage and resolve helpdesk ticket escalations efficiently.
• Support and maintain desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and peripherals.
• Install, configure, and maintain operating systems and enterprise applications.
• Administer Active Directory, managing user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
• Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding, including provisioning and deprovisioning IT resources.
• Educate users on best practices for security, software usage, and IT policies.

System Administration:
• Monitor and maintain IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and cloud-based services.
• Implement cybersecurity best practices, including patch management, system hardening, and access controls.
• Install, configure, and maintain Windows and Linux servers as well as enterprise applications.
• Manage cloud environments (Azure, AWS) and virtualized platforms (VMware vSphere).
• Administer network infrastructure, including LAN/WAN, VPNs, firewalls, and other networking components.
• Ensure data integrity, backup reliability, and disaster recovery readiness.
• Maintain and troubleshoot enterprise applications, including email, collaboration tools, and cloud services.
• Ensure compliance with IT security policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
• Maintain system documentation, incident reports, and compliance records.
Additional Requirements:
• Ability to work under pressure while managing multiple priorities.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Availability for weekend system maintenance as needed.
• Punctuality, reliability, and a professional work ethic.
Job Qualifications (Education/Skills/Experience)

Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of experience in system administration or technical support.
• Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Linux, Active Directory, and Group Policy.
• Experience with networking protocols and technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls).
• Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001).
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users.

Preferred:
• Certifications: CompTIA Security+, Microsoft (MCSA/MCP), Linux+, AWS, Azure.
• Experience in DoD environments (RMF, STIGs, DISA compliance).
• Knowledge of IT compliance standards and system hardening best practices.
