What is a weekend cleaner?

Weekend cleaners are individuals responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in various settings, such as offices, schools, or public facilities, during weekends. Their duties typically include sweeping, mopping, dusting, emptying trash bins, and disinfecting surfaces. Weekend cleaners may work independently or as part of a team and are often scheduled to clean during off-peak hours to minimize disruption. This role is essential for ensuring that spaces remain clean, safe, and presentable for use at the start of the week.

What does a weekend cleaner do?

As a weekend cleaner, you clean offices, commercial spaces, and residential homes on weekends. You dust furniture, take out the trash, and perform a variety of other janitorial and housekeeping duties. Your responsibilities include working independently and keeping written logs about trash collection, noting the time you clean each area. Whether you work in a large building or someone’s home, you maintain a degree of discretion, carefully working around personal spaces and objects. Other duties may involve working in a team to complete tasks, such as vacuuming or mopping a larger area.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend cleaner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Cleaner, you need basic cleaning knowledge, attention to detail, and physical stamina, with a high school diploma often sufficient for entry. Familiarity with cleaning equipment, chemicals, and safety procedures is typically required, and some employers may value certifications in health and safety. Reliability, time management, and good communication skills help cleaners efficiently coordinate tasks and respond to client needs. These abilities ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment, which is essential for client satisfaction and workplace hygiene.

What are some common challenges faced by weekend cleaners, and how can they be addressed?

Weekend cleaners often encounter challenges such as working with limited supervision, managing tight schedules to complete tasks before the facility reopens, and handling unexpected messes from increased weekend activity. To address these challenges, it's helpful to have a clear cleaning checklist, good communication with supervisors regarding any issues, and efficient time management skills. Additionally, being proactive about restocking supplies and reporting maintenance concerns can make the job smoother and more effective.

Job description

HIRING: 2 Cleaners — Short Hills, NJ — Recurring Store Cleaning & Window Washing (1 Location)

Location: 1200 Morris Tpke., Short Hills, NJ 07078

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're North Co Commercial Cleaning, hiring two cleaners for a retail store for a national home goods retailer (store name shared once you're confirmed and onboarding). This is steady, recurring work — same day, same store, every week/month. Great consistent side income you can count on.

FIRST VISIT — DEEP CLEAN, BOTH HIRES

- Friday, August 14, 9:00 AM start

- Both cleaners work this one together — it's the first paid visit

- Pay: $85 per person, about 1.5–2 hours per person on site

- That works out to roughly $43–$57/hr effective

- This deep clean repeats twice a year as an extra paid visit for both hires

TWO OPENINGS — TELL US WHICH ONE YOU WANT (OR OPEN TO EITHER):

1) STORE CLEANER — WEEKLY

- Every Wednesday, 9:00 AM start, beginning August 19

- Pay: $70 flat per visit

- Time on site: about 1–1.5 hours (could be a little less or a little more depending on experience and getting a system down after the first couple visits)

- That works out to roughly $47–$70/hr effective

2) WINDOW CLEANER — MONTHLY

- Once a month, Wednesday 9:00 AM start, first visit August 19

- Pay: $70 flat per visit

- Time on site: about 45 min–1 hour (could be a little less or a little more depending on experience and getting a system down after the first couple visits)

- That works out to roughly $70–$95/hr effective

- Requires real window scrubber-and-squeegee experience

BACKUP VISITS — BOTH HIRES

You're each other's backup: if the other cleaner can't make their visit, you can cover it and earn that service's pay — extra paid visits.

SCHEDULE & RELIABILITY (READ THIS)

- Services happen on the agreed day, every time. Same day every week (store clean) / every month (windows).

- Any schedule change needs 48 hours' notice to us — we handle the store.

- No-shows are the one thing that ends this relationship. If you can't make it, tell us ahead — communication is everything.

PAY

- Flat per-visit rates above, paid per service.

- Check in, upload before/after photos and videos, and check out through the links we send — that's how you get paid.

- Pay averages 24–48 hours after the job is completed to manager satisfaction.

- Parking: reimbursed only with a receipt showing date, time in, time out, place, and total.

THE WORK

Store clean: dusting fixtures, shelving, and counters, vacuuming and mopping floors, restrooms, trash, and restocking restroom supplies (client provides them). Windows: storefront glass and entry doors, inside and out, squeegeed and detailed. Deep clean: full top-to-bottom version of the store clean. Detailed checklists provided after onboarding.

REQUIREMENTS

- Must be 21 or older

- Reliable personal transportation (rideshare/transit doesn't qualify)

- Window Cleaner role: real scrubber-and-squeegee window experience

- Consistent availability on your role's scheduled day

SUPPLIES

Bring your own supplies and earn a per-visit bonus: +$10 store clean, +$5 windows, +$15 both. Or we provide everything — either is fine. Tell us what you have: all, some, or none.

Store clean supplies: vacuum, mop and bucket (or flat mop with pads), broom and dustpan and/or dust mop, all-purpose cleaner, disinfectant, glass cleaner, microfiber cloths, dusting tool, restroom cleaner, scrubber or deck brush.

Window supplies: window scrubber/applicator, squeegee, glass solution, microfiber or scrim cloths, scraper or razor, bucket.

Step stool or short ladder: not required, but handy for tops of windows — extension pole works fine too.

DRESS CODE

Slip-resistant shoes recommended (we can help with those if needed). Clean plain blue or black shirt until your branded shirt at 3 months. Jeans or non-athletic shorts — nothing ripped, no sweatpants. Hair tied back, arrive clean and presentable.

PHOTOS & CHECK-OUT

Before/after photos and videos every visit through your check-in link — non-negotiable, more is always better. Full walkthrough with the store manager before you leave.

COMMUNICATION — #1 PRIORITY

If anything changes or comes up, tell us right away. We'd always rather hear from you early than find out late.
