Job description

School Bus Driver

Reports to: Bus Driver Transportation Director

Qualifications:

  • Must hold a valid driver's license issued
  • Must stay current in all training mandated by the district and Illinois
  • Good health with no long-term disabilities that effect performance in essential job duties
  • Preferred, hold a valid school bus driver license issued by Illinois Secretary of State. Training can be provided if license is not already obtained.
  • Demonstrated aptitude or competency of the performance responsibilities of a school bus driver

General Responsibilities:

To provide a safe and reliable system to transport students to school sponsored events

Duties:

  • Drives assigned routes according to all safety standards and laws.
  • Maintains route schedules.
  • Ensures the care and safe upkeep of the assigned bus.
  • Responsible for the conduct and safety of all passengers.
  • Deals promptly with infractions of rules and reports student's infractions when necessary to the principal.
  • Maintains a positive attitude toward the job, students, and other workers.
  • Conducts self in ethical and courteous manner to parents, students and staff.
  • Knows the rules and regulations concerning driving the bus.
  • Reports accidents promptly.
  • Performs pre-trip inspection on a daily basis.
  • Reports all mechanical problems promptly to Transportation Director.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for the cleanliness of the bus by cleaning the bus on a minimal basis of once per week.
  • Checks the amount of gasoline in bus tank and refuels bus as needed.
  • Completes all paper work involving leaves and trip reports on a daily basis.
  • Ensures that all students are delivered to the correct home and attempts to determine that the student can enter the home, if applicable.
  • Knowledgeable concerning safety precautions regarding blood borne pathogens.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director or designee.

Salary depends on experience. Minimum pay of $25,000 annually (assuming a full route load). Benefits: full time has IMRF Pension, sick time
