Maintenance Technician – Weekend Shift

Location: Ottawa, Illinois
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Maintenance Manager

Position Summary

Sigan America is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to support our manufacturing operations on our Weekend Shift. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and maintaining production equipment and facility systems to maximize equipment reliability, safety, and production uptime.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, enjoys solving problems, and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Weekend Shift Schedule

  • Friday, Saturday & Sunday
  • 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Full-time position (36 hours/week)

Essential Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair production equipment during scheduled production.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
  • Install, replace, and adjust mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical components.
  • Perform production changeovers, install change parts, and adjust equipment for efficient startup.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, drawings, schematics, and work orders.
  • Assist with equipment installation, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and work orders.
  • Support production by minimizing downtime and responding quickly to equipment failures.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems including 24VDC controls through 480V three-phase power.
  • Perform basic PLC troubleshooting (programming experience is a plus).
  • Work safely while following all OSHA, company safety, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area using 5S principles.
  • Work effectively with Production, Quality, Engineering, and fellow Maintenance team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred

  • Technical degree or industrial maintenance certification.
  • Experience with PLCs and HMIs.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Experience in food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, or consumer packaged goods manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement practices.

Physical Requirements

This position requires employees to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequently bend, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and reach overhead.
  • Lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Push, pull, grasp, and use hand tools throughout the shift.
  • Work around moving mechanical equipment while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
