SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Works with management and team members to create a safe work environment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in health and safety or relevant engineering discipline and three years minimum related experience and/or training. Alternatively, a candidate with at least ten years of health and safety experience and a nationally recognized safety certification may be considered.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
• Must have valid current driver's license.
• Prefer experience in OSHA and EPA regulatory requirements.
• Excellent computer, communication, and training skills
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY AREAS AND DUTIES
• Leads the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other regulatory bodies.
• Maintains and updates the online safety management system, on-demand safety training system, and the SDS online database.
• Advises management of safety compliance concerns and preventive actions.
• Plans and implements training for employees in work site safety practices.
• Maintains safety files and records.
• Performs safety surveys and inspections, prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures where identified and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
• Leads post-accident investigations and reports on identified causes or contributing factors and hazards for use by company personnel and senior management.
• Assists with, plans for, and conducts safety-related training.
• Assists in the development, evaluation and updating of safety programs.
• Assists with and maintains environmental reports including storm water permits, etc.
• Must be able to travel overnight at least 30% of the time.
• Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined by management.
Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
• This position will supervise one or more safety specialists (permanent or consulting).
