Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
To perform skilled carpentry work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of building structures and related facilities and fixtures; and to perform duties in collaboration with other trades persons as required in support of the District maintenance program.
SUPERVISION:
Positions in this classification are supervised by the Carpentry and Related Trades Supervisor.
Receives technical and functional direction and work instructions from a Lead Carpenter.
Positions in this classification exercise no supervision.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Alters, repairs, and constructs wooden fixtures such as partitions, counters, doors, window frames, sheds, scaffolds, forms, and fences.
• Constructs and repairs school and office furniture, equipment and fixtures.
• Performs mill and cabinet work.
• Maintains and repairs woodwork of buildings.
• Lays and repairs floors and roofs, including work with asphalt tile and other composition materials.
• Builds stairways, closets, cases, and shelving.
• Fits doors, windows, sashes, and screens.
• Operates lathes, planes, jointers, handsaws, and other woodworking machinery.
• Sharpens hand tools and ensures that tools and equipment are properly cared for.
• Installs fixtures constructed.
• Maintains records of time, labor and materials.
• Assists staff in other trades as assigned.
• Operates District vehicle for travel to work sites.
• Performs job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING:
Completion of a formal apprenticeship in the carpenter's trade.
-OR-
Three years of paid experience in the construction, installation and repair of residential or non-residential building structures and related facilities and fixtures, utilizing wood, plywood, wall board, and similar materials.
-AND-
High school graduation or the equivalent.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES/REGISTRATIONS (At time of appointment and during employment):

• An appropriate, valid California driver's license.

• Successful candidates who pass all parts of the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list in order of their relative merit.

School Police Officers Differential compensation:
POST Intermediate Certification: 6% to base pay
POST Advanced Certification: 8% to base pay
Associate degree: 5% to base pay

Master degree: 9% increase to base pay
