Essential Functions/Typical Tasks
The County of Prince George, Virginia is currently seeking certified applicants for the purpose of creating an on-call pool to be utilized to fill in during times of staff shortages. This position will cover various shifts as needed.
Hourly Wage: BLS - $27.57 Intermediate- $28.95 Paramedic - $30.40
This position will be responsible for responding to emergency calls; providing basic or advanced life support; engaging in active fire suppression; preparing and maintaining detailed records.
Qualification Requirements
In depth knowledge of firefighting techniques, emergency medical procedures, and rescue operations; the ability to rapidly assess emergency situations and coordinate effectively with other emergency services is crucial, along with proficiency in operating a variety of fire suppression and medical equipment, including diagnosis, proper patient treatment and transport, automobile extraction and technical rescue operations; team work and collaboration, scene size up, problem solving and decision making abilities, basic and advanced fire control; thorough knowledge of the principles of building construction, fire behavior, technical proficiency in firefighting equipment, handling and control of hazardous material incidents, basic and advanced search and rescue techniques, anatomy, physiology and chemistry in relation to the respiratory and circulatory systems; thorough knowledge of elementary physics, chemistry and mechanics as applied to fire suppression; thorough knowledge of the street system and geography of the County; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with associates and the general public; ability to keep simple records and prepare reports; possession of mechanical aptitude; physical endurance and agility.
Special Requirements
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must possess and maintain CPR, NIMS, ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800, EVOC 1-3, EMT-Basic (ALS preferred), State Certified Firefighter II and Haz-Mat Operations (DPO and Instructor I preferred). Must meet and maintain all departmental requirements for the position. Fire Medics must engage in continuous learning and enhancement of skills to stay current with fire suppression and EMS technologies and techniques. Regular assessments and evaluations will be done to ensure proficiency and competency.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school (Associates Degree preferred) supplemented by required firefighting and emergency medical training. Maintaining current certifications and licenses relevant to firefighting and EMS is required. A commitment to ongoing professional development is essential. Fulfillment of both PGFEMS and state-mandated training requirements is essential. Fire Medics must engage in continuous learning and enhancement of skills to stay current with fire suppression and EMS technologies and techniques. Regular assessments and evaluation will ensure proficiency and competency.
Pre-employment physical/drug testing and comprehensive criminal and financial background check, to include fingerprinting, required. Applicants will be required to submit a current DMV record at the applicant's expense.
