What is a Weekend CAD Modeling?

A Weekend CAD Modeling job involves creating or modifying computer-aided design (CAD) drawings and 3D models, typically on a part-time basis during weekends. These roles are often suited for students, freelancers, or professionals looking to supplement their income or gain experience. Responsibilities can include drafting technical drawings, updating existing models, and collaborating with engineers or architects remotely. Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks is usually required. Weekend CAD modelers may work in industries like architecture, engineering, manufacturing, or product design.

What are some typical challenges faced by Weekend CAD Modeling professionals, and how can they be managed?

Weekend CAD Modeling roles often require balancing tight deadlines with high-quality output, as projects may need to be completed in a shorter time frame. Communication can be a challenge, especially if collaborating with teams who work regular weekday hours. Staying organized, proactively clarifying project requirements before the weekend, and utilizing collaborative tools can help ensure smooth workflow. Additionally, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of CAD software is essential for efficiency and accuracy.

Job description

CAD Drafter

Aeronot Design is an architecture firm specializing in imaginative, custom buildings rather than standard, box-like structures. The team collaborates closely with clients to understand their unique needs and preferences, creating one-of-a-kind designs that reflect each customer’s vision. Aeronot Design personalizes the entire design process, focusing on creativity, functionality, and aesthetic impact. The firm leverages state-of-the-art technology to turn ambitious concepts into practical architectural solutions.

Role Description The Computer Aided Design (CAD) Drafter is a full-time, on-site role based in Fresno, CA. This role is responsible for producing precise technical and architectural drawings, converting design concepts into detailed CAD models and construction documents. Day-to-day tasks include interpreting sketches and specifications from architects and designers, creating and revising CAD drawings, and ensuring all documentation complies with applicable standards and building codes. The CAD Drafter will collaborate with project team members, coordinate drawing updates, maintain organized file systems, and support the design process with accurate layouts, sections, and details.

Qualifications

Proficiency in Revit (CAD) software and tools, with the ability to create and modify complex 2D and 3D models.  Knowledge with Chaos Endscape is also welcomed.
Strong skills in Technical Drawing and Engineering Drawings, including clear dimensioning, notation, and adherence to drafting standards.
Experience producing Architectural Drawings, such as floor plans, elevations, sections, and details that support custom building designs.
Solid general Drawing skills, with attention to accuracy, scale, and visual clarity in digital and printed documents.
Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in drafting, architecture, engineering technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Familiarity with building codes, construction materials, and structural concepts relevant to architectural projects.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with architects, engineers, designers, and project stakeholders on-site.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple drawing sets and deadlines in a fast-paced project environment.
