Job description

Maintenance Assistant 

Misericordia Nursing & Rehabilitation Center has been providing compassionate care to older adults since 1943. As our Maintenance Assistant you will play a vital role in the upkeep and maintenance of our 2-floor facility. Collaborating with our Environment Services Director and Maintenance Staff for building maintenance, and grounds maintenance which includes the upkeep of our lawns and snow removal. This position requires someone with exceptional mechanical skills and the ability to use various hand tools – including drills, saws, and lawn mowers.

As our Maintenance Assistant your responsibilities would include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on facility equipment that may include plumbing, electrical systems, and carpentry work.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Performs snow removal from walkways using company resources, including shovels, and snow blowers.
  • Performs lawn maintenance using company resources including a riding lawn mower, weed eater, and weed control.
  • Routine maintenance of all equipment, including the generator, and wheelchairs.
  • Minor electrical maintenance including repair or replacement of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, etc.)
  • Painting (e.g. prepare surfaces, use brush, sprayer or roller to apply paint, stain, vanish, etc.)
  • The moving of office furniture, storage bins, file cabinets and recycling/shredding materials.
  • Monitors and inspects building, systems and facility for wear, malfunctions, etc. Discussing and reporting needed repairs with the Department Director.
  • Other cleaning/maintenance duties as assigned by the Department Director.


The successful applicant should have proven experience as a maintenance assistant. You must be motivated and have a passion for the care and well-being of not only our building, but the residents that we provide service.

Requirements:

Highschool diploma or GED. Trade school/Vocational Training a plus! Previous experience in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry and groundskeeping is valued. Familiarity with preventative maintenance and emergency repair procedures.   

A valid Pennsylvania Driver's License. 

Understanding of basic plumbing (fixing leaks, unclogging drains, replacing fixtures). Minor electrical work (replacing bulbs, outlets, switches). Carpentry experience (installing shelves, cabinets, repairing drywall, flooring). Groundskeeping knowledge (landscaping, snow removal, mowing). Problem-Solving and Safety Awareness.
