Job description

Bus Driver

Qualifications: Possess a current Commercial Driver's License (CDL), and holds a current School Bus Driver's Permit.

Job Goal: Under the general supervision of the Administrator or Coordinator, the Bus Driver has the primary responsibility for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of the children, staff and volunteers during bus transportation to and from the program and on field trips. It is also the role of the Bus Driver to: guarantee that the bus is clean and in proper working condition at all times; determine and follow safe and efficient bus routes; ensure all children are in an age appropriate child safety restraints; assists in ensuring child/staff ratio is maintained on the bus and provide day to day guidance to the Bus Aides; maintain all transportation records required by the program; ensures bus evacuation drills are held annually; and evacuate children in case of emergency. The Bus Driver also acts as a link between the parents and the program.

Reports To: Administrator of Transportation

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Ensures the safety and well-being of children and adults being transported to and from the program and on field trips on vehicles used by the program, including but not limited to:
  2. Follows and ensures mandated child restraint devise procedures, ensuring children are properly positioned and restrained when required (for seat belts, harnesses for the age appropriate child).
  3. Completing a Student Bus Conduct Report when necessary and communicate the incident to the principal and Administrator or Coordinator.
  4. Ensures that the bus always has sufficient fuel.
  5. In consultation with the Administrator or Coordinator, develops and follows efficient and safe written bus routes that ensure no child will be on the bus more than an hour.
  6. Attends all scheduled staff meetings, team meetings as required.
  7. Bus Drivers with assistance of the Bus Aides, will follow safe bus loading and unloading procedures.
  8. Follows procedures to guarantee no child is left alone on bus without adult supervision at any time, including insuring all children have departed bus at the end of all bus stops and routes (morning, evening and during field trips or other special trips).
  9. Assures himself or herself that the bus is locked at the end of the route.
  10. Monitors and tracks bi-weekly checklist of students pick up and drop offs.
  11. Checks monthly calendar to confirm location and directions of field trips.
  12. Follows other procedures developed by the delegate for receiving managing behavior of children.
  13. Keeps bus clean and free of debris; follows other bus cleaning procedures.
  14. Wash busses at least once a month, and fuels bus every Friday. Needs to document at department.
  15. Fuel bus every Friday and check all levels of gas before a field trip also.
  16. Routinely inventories bus emergency and first aid supplies and equipment, reports needs to the Administrator or Coordinator.
  17. With the assistance of the Bus Aides, delivers messages and other items to and from parents.

Salary: $25.00 per hour. Guaranteed a minimum of 4 hours.
