Job Summary:
Conduct operating functions of the Indy Art Center's Gallery Café. Represent the organization in a friendly, professional manner as a representative to all students and visitors of the facility. Promote classes and membership benefits. Assist and provide excellent a customer service experience to all staff, faculty, students, and guests. We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Barista / Café Attendant to support daily café operations. This role is responsible for opening and closing procedures, maintaining cleanliness throughout the shift, supporting beverage service, and handling basic cash and inventory responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Set up the café for service, including stocking, taking inventory, and opening/closing the café
  • Gather required dishware, supplies, and ensure the espresso machine and surrounding area remain clean and well-maintained
  • Wash dishes, sweep and mop floors, remove trash, and sanitize workspace
  • Support smooth daily operations as needed
  • Interact with Students and Guests providing insight into current exhibitions, outreach projects, and Art Park exhibits
  • Secure all equipment and supplies in locked cabinets
  • Perform opening and closing cash drawer and complete deposit paperwork
  • Work with Guest Services Manager on improving guest relations by obtaining feedback, and discussing ideas on current/possible SOPS.
  • We have an all-hands-on deck policy. If someone in another department asks for your help you are required to assist other staff, faculty and students.
  • Report security concerns to Guest Services or Facilities. For example someone behaving suspiciously.

Qualifications
  • Strong attention to cleanliness and organization
  • Ability to follow opening and closing procedures consistently
  • Basic comfort with POS systems and handling cash
  • Reliability and punctuality
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Have a flexible schedule, as this position works select hours on weekdays and weekends.
  • Must be able to lift 25lbs
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Must be able to communicate directly with public speaking skills.

Preferred Experience
  • A combination of education, training, or experience equivalent to a high school diploma + two years of customer service experience
  • Previous café, coffee shop, or food service experience
  • Familiarity with espresso machines and food safety practices
