Job description

The Bottom Painter is a position responsible for applying paint coatings on various marine vessels utilizing specialized equipment, including spray equipment, or by hand.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare boat bottoms by scraping, sanding, grinding, taping, and cleaning
  • Apply multiple coats of epoxy primer, anti-fouling paints, propspeed, etc.
  • Assist with cleaning, hauling, rigging, and launching vessels
  • Training provided to further skills for rigging and preventative maintenance on fleet vessels
  • Prepping, sanding, bagging, and protecting areas to always acquire a professional finish
  • Proper storage and disposal of Hazardous Materials (i.e., Solvents, Paint & Paint related waste)
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers
  • Maintain company equipment to ensure good working order; report any issues to the appropriate manager
  • Follow safety rules, applicable laws, and regulations
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and other proper protective gear as needed
  • Work and collaborate with other departments in the yard to ensure the projects are done on time and correctly
  • Able to work overtime/weekends as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of experience with sanding, painting, and applying coatings on various metal surfaces is preferred
  • Strong work ethic and organizational skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team

Schedule

  • 7 am - 6:30 pm (varies depending on available work)

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Requires climbing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and twisting
  • Requires the ability to use speech, vision and hearing
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds
  • Exposure to changes in temperature and humidity
  • Work is performed outside in the elements, on and around water
