Position Overview:
Purdue Polytechnic High Schools is seeking a dedicated, student-centered Assistant Boys Basketball Coach for the Broad Ripple campus. This role supports the Head Coach in building a competitive, character-driven basketball program that aligns with the mission of PPHS and its commitment to student success both on and off the court.

The Assistant Coach will help cultivate a positive team culture, support student-athlete development, and contribute to the success of the basketball program while emphasizing academics, sportsmanship, accountability, and student well-being.

Requirements

Purdue Polytechnic High Schools is seeking a dedicated, student-centered Assistant Boys Basketball Coach for the Broad Ripple campus. This role supports the Head Coach in building a competitive, character-driven basketball program that aligns with the mission of PPHS and its commitment to student success both on and off the court.

The Assistant Coach will help cultivate a positive team culture, support student-athlete development, and contribute to the success of the basketball program while emphasizing academics, sportsmanship, accountability, and student well-being.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Coaching and Player Development

  • Assist in planning and leading practices, drills, and team development activities
  • Support the instruction of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and game preparation
  • Provide feedback and encouragement to student-athletes to support skill growth and performance

Game Day and Program Support

  • Assist with preparation for games, including warm-ups, supervision, and sideline coaching
  • Support scouting, opponent preparation, and game strategy implementation
  • Assist with the care, inventory, and distribution of uniforms and equipment

Student Support and Mentorship

  • Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes
  • Encourage academic progress, personal responsibility, and team accountability
  • Help create an environment that promotes discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship

Culture, Safety, and Compliance

  • Support a safe, inclusive, and respectful team environment
  • Uphold PPHS core values: Act as One, Nurture Student Genius, Start from Yes, Do the Right Thing, and Get It Done
  • Follow all school, athletic department, conference, and IHSAA requirements, policies, and procedures, as applicable
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students and families
Qualifications
  • Previous basketball coaching and/or playing experience preferred
  • Experience working with high school-aged students preferred
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, coaches, and school staff
  • Ability to attend practices, games, meetings, and team events, including evenings and weekends
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior high school coaching experience
  • Knowledge of offensive and defensive basketball systems
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
  • Knowledge of student-athlete development and positive coaching practices
Compensation
  • Stipend based on experience and program needs
Working Conditions

This position requires active engagement in practices, games, and team activities, including standing for extended periods, demonstrating drills, and supervising students in gymnasium and event settings.
