Position Summary: The overall purpose of this job is to assist the head baseball coach in all areas of running an NJCAA collegiate baseball program and maintain the athletic facilities of the college.ย 

Essential Functions:

60% Baseball Program Management

  • Serve as the assistant baseball coach by supporting the head baseball coach with the daily operations of administrative tasks, organization of practice, on field duties and responsibilities, camps and fundraising.
  • Serve as primary recruiting coordinator, including scouting, communicating with potential recruits, setting up visits, and negotiating appropriate scholarship opportunities.
  • Work closely with the head baseball coach with planning and organizing travel arrangements for home and away games with hotels, buses, food orders, equipment and itineraries.
  • Assist the Head Baseball Coach with tracking student-athlete academics, supporting study and tutoring efforts, helping with university placement, and using school systems to support their overall development.
  • Assist in film breakdown and opponent scouting. Help develop scouting reports and management of video software uploads.
  • Coach in all games and scrimmages including traveling to away games
  • Assist in the care, maintenance and organization of baseball equipment used by the program and to fulfil any other duties assigned by the head baseball coach

40% Athletics Grounds/Facilities Management

  • Maintain and manage all athletic fields (baseball, softball, soccer, etc.), including mowing, lining, irrigation, and turf care
  • Prepare playing surfaces for games, ensuring safety and quality standards
  • Oversee daily upkeep and cleanliness of athletic facilities, including dugouts, locker rooms, and common areas
  • Perform or schedule routine maintenance and minor repairs on facilities, equipment, and grounds
  • Coordinate and schedule field and facility usage for teams, classes, and events
  • Manage inventory and ordering of equipment, field supplies, and maintenance materials
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and institutional standards for athletic facilities
  • Supervise and train part-time staff, student workers, or volunteers assisting with grounds and facility work
  • Assist with setup and breakdown for games, tournaments, and special events
  • Work closely with coaches and administration to address facility needs and improvements

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred. Knowledge of NJCAA/TCCAA (as applicable) rules and regulations, athletic facility operations, and event management practices is preferred
  • A minimum of two years of experience in collegiate, high school, or club-level baseball coaching, as well as athletic operations, facilities management is required. Related experience may be considered where it demonstrates equivalent knowledge and skills. Experience with student-athlete development, recruiting, event management, and athletic program operations is preferred.

Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience.

Physical Demands: The Assistant Baseball Coach and Athletic Facilities Manager may work in various locations including the gymnasium, weight room, and outdoors. The Assistant Baseball Coach is required to perform work of an active nature, moving around locations requiring sufficient physical stamina to carry out duties. Requires ambulatory ability to lift medium-to-heavy weight materials, balance, and walk and stand for extended periods of time. Requires visual acuity to observe moving objects and recognize physical injuries. Requires auditory ability to project voice to a small group. Lift and move light to moderately heavy (less than 50 pounds) objects.

Hazards: The Assistant Baseball Coach and Athletic Facilities Manager is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions (cold, wet and humid) and/hot or humid gymnasium environment(s). The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens.
