What is a weekend barback?

Weekend barbacks are support staff who assist bartenders in busy bars, pubs, or restaurants, primarily during weekends when customer volume is high. Their duties include restocking supplies, cleaning the bar area, refilling ice, collecting glassware, and ensuring bartenders have everything needed to serve customers efficiently. Barbacks play a vital role in maintaining the flow of service and helping the bar run smoothly, especially during peak hours on weekends.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend barback?

To thrive as a Weekend Barback, you need physical stamina, basic knowledge of bar operations, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, often requiring a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, bar inventory tools, and safe handling of glassware and cleaning supplies is beneficial. Strong teamwork, attention to detail, and effective communication help you support bartenders and ensure smooth service. These skills are vital for maintaining bar efficiency, guest satisfaction, and a safe, organized workspace during busy shifts.

What are some common challenges faced by weekend barbacks, and how can they be managed effectively?

Weekend barbacks often contend with high customer volume and fast-paced environments, which can make it challenging to keep the bar stocked and clean. Effective time management and strong communication with bartenders are key to staying ahead of inventory needs and maintaining smooth service. Familiarizing yourself with the layout of the bar and anticipating bartender requests can help reduce stress and improve efficiency during busy shifts. Building good rapport with the team also ensures that everyone works together seamlessly, making even the busiest weekends more manageable.

Job description

What You’ll Do:

Looking to break into the bar business? The Barback is the perfect entry-level opportunity for you to gain experience.

Every Bartender needs a capable assistant to have their back behind the bar. Here are a few of the tasks you can expect to complete regularly:

·         Monitor and maintain the stock of ice, juice, liquor, beer, and wine.

·         Cut and stock garnishes for drinks.

·         Ensure bar area is clean and organized.

Where You’ve Been:

We’re looking for someone with a high school diploma or equivalent. While previous bartending experience is a plus, it is not required. What we really want is someone capable of thinking on their feet and able to keep up in high-pressure situations. If that sounds like you, go ahead and apply.

When You’re Here:

This probably goes without saying but you’ll be on your feet a lot. There will be occasions when you may be carrying/lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, bending/twisting, climbing stairs and more. You also must be able to accommodate varying schedules including nights, weekends and holidays. But wait, there’s a great upside: in exchange for your flexibility, we offer excellent pay, hotel discounts, F&B discounts and the opportunity to be part of an anything-but-standard growing hotel company.
