From our Alberta operations, we design and manufacture high-quality shell-and-tube and air-cooled heat exchangers for energy and industrial customers across Canada and around the world.

For more than 50 years, our success has been built on technical expertise, strong customer relationships, and a commitment to getting the details right.

About this role

This is not simply a drafting role with a leadership title attached. It’s a leadership role at the center of everything we design and manufacture.

We are seeking a Manager, Design & Drafting to lead a team of designers and drafters across two Calgary locations and two product lines: shell-and-tube heat exchangers and air-cooled heat exchangers.

You will coach and develop junior designers who are still finding their feet, develop intermediates who want to grow, and partner with senior designers who have decades of institutional knowledge. You will manage departmental capacity and project priorities, and ensure the accuracy and quality of fabrication documentation produced by the team. You will also help advance drafting standards, strengthen collaboration between design and production, and support EIL’s ongoing transition from Autodesk Inventor to SolidWorks.

What you’ll do

▸ Lead, coach, and develop a team of designers and drafters across two Calgary locations and product lines

▸ Oversee the quality, accuracy, completeness, and buildability of fabrication drawings, models, and drawing package

▸ Manage scheduling, capacity planning, and resource allocation across multiple concurrent projects

Establish and improve drafting standards, templates, component libraries, and departmental processes

▸ Support the integration of Autodesk Inventor and SolidWorksin a PDM workflow

Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and professional development planning

▸ Partner with engineering, project management, procurement, and production to resolve design and fabrication issues

▸ Build and maintain a team culture grounded in trust, accountability, and continuous improvement

What you bring

▸ A proven track record of leading and developing a technical team within a manufacturing, fabrication, drafting, design, or engineering environment

▸ Experience managing teams of 10+ employees, ideally across junior, intermediate, and senior levels

▸ Strong knowledge of 3D modelling, 2D detailing practices, drafting standards, and assembly documentation in industrial equipment

▸ Proficiency with SolidWorks and/or Autodesk Inventor, including experience with PDM systems and digital document-management workflows

▸ The ability to review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and practical manufacturability

▸ Experience working collaboratively with engineering, project management, and production teams

▸ Strong communication skills and a coaching-first leadership approach

▸ A diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Drafting and Design or a related discipline

Nice to have

▸ P.Eng. designation or eligibility

▸ Experience with ASME, TEMA, or API codes and standards

Experience with pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and Air Coolers

Experience in Design of Steel Structures, pipe racks and skids

▸ Experience leading a CAD platform migration

▸ Familiarity with Autodesk Vault or comparable document control systems

Experience developing or modernizing drafting standards, templates, or component libraries

▸ Formal leadership training, an MBA, or other business education

Work environment

This is a primarily on-site role based out of our Calgary operations, splitting time between our Quarry Park office and our production facility, located approximately 10 minutes apart. The position includes regular interaction with the shop floor and production teams and offers up to five work-from-home days per month. Travel is minimal.

What we offer

▸ Competitive base salary commensurate with experience and qualifications

▸ Eligibility to participate in an annual bonus program

▸ Full benefits package (employer-paid), Pension matching, and APEGA/professional development support

▸ Four weeks vacation plus 9 additional paid wellness days

▸ Extended long weekends throughout the summer

▸ The stability of a growing Canadian company with more than 60 years of industry experience
