Skokie Public Library seeks an enthusiastic and experienced manager to co-design advisory and information services strategy for the library and lead the Patron Engagement team in providing excellent advisory and information services for the Skokie community. The Patron Engagement Manager works with, and under the supervision of, the Director of Public Services to coordinate service models, programs, spaces, tools, and staff to engage community members in reading, listening, and viewing materials as well as in accessing the information and technology they need to thrive.

Selected Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership through participation on library’s management team and supervision of Patron Engagement departmental staff 
  • Hire, train, coach, and review performance of staff 
  • Ensure a departmental climate that offers library patrons efficient, accurate, and courteous service 
  • Collaborate with the Patron Engagement Supervisor to provide leadership to the advisory and information services workgroups and to tie staff work to the organization’s mission and strategic priorities 
  • Oversee and evaluate service models and operations for advisory and information services and proactively seek out, recommend, and implement innovations in these areas in relation to total library services, the goals of other departments, and the needs of the community 
  • Apply and integrate principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in advisory and information services workflows, best practices, and services 
  • Liaise with Learning Experiences Manager to understand, set, and implement program priorities, including the planning, implementation, and evaluation of active and passive programs for adults in areas such as books, authors, popular media, digital literacy, information literacy, media literacy, civic engagement, and career services 
  • Support public service projects and initiatives 

Selected Requirements

  • Master of Library Science from an ALA accredited library school or relevant experience and/or study 
  • Minimum three years supervisory experience 
  • Experience providing advisory and/or information library service to the public 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, inspire, support, and lead direct reports and other colleagues 
  • Project management skills 
  • Deep personal dedication to public service 
     

Preferred Competencies:   

  • Multilingual skills in English plus another language relevant to the Skokie community, including, but not limited to, Arabic, Assyrian, Dari, Pashto, Spanish, and Urdu 
  • Public speaking skills, including comfort appearing on social media platforms with direction
