JOB DESCRIPTION:ASPHALT ROLLER OPERATOR Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY: Safely and efficiently operates breakdown rollers and finish rollers. Distributes, breaks down, compresses, and gives a finished surface to cooling asphalt to provide superior customer service in the asphalt paving business.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (will include but not limited to):

  • Operates various sizes of rollers to compact subgrade and subbase asphalt surfaces appropriately and safely.
  • Performs daily maintenance and safety checks of roller.
  • Performs daily maintenance of fluids and water systems.
  • Safely operates roller in successive overlapping passes over surfaces to be compacted, rolling asphalt to desired compaction and smoothness.
  • Determines the speed and direction of the roller, based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures, so that ridges do not form by excessive pressure.
  • Operates the breakdown roller to achieve proper compaction.
  • Operates the finish roller in successive overlapping passes to apply the final finish and remove imperfections with a finish roller.
  • Assists with tamping and wacker when necessary if roller is not accessible to certain areas.
  • Ensures the job site is clean and free of excess material.
  • Assist in setting up and taking down signs when necessary.
  • Communicate with Paving Supervisor and Job Superintendent regarding any flaws in material or finished mat.
  • Must have the initiative, ability, and willingness to perform and assist with other job positions for job completion as needed, assisting team members with shovel, lute, rake.
  • Effectively communicates with team members.
  • Take necessary precautions to ensure job is being done in the safest manner possible. Is mindful of their personal safety as well as safety of team members and customers.
  • Monitors quality of jobs to ensure all aspects of the job are being done properly and efficiently.
  • Follows all direction from Libs Paving Management team, Foreman, and Superintendents.
  • Completes daily job tracking efficiently, completely, and timely as required using Pave Day.
  • Maintains a high level of discipline and professionalism as a representative of Libs Paving.
  • When driving company vehicles, follows proper daily checklist and inspection procedures while completing pre and post trip inspections.
  • Adheres to all safety rules established in the Libs Paving Safety Program.
  • Responsible for keeping truck interiors clean of debris while traveling to and from job sites.

  • QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Must have a valid driverโ€™s license, (CDL Class A or Class B CDL is a plus) and maintain in good standing.
  • Must hold a valid DOT Medical Card.
  • Must pass drug test and keep COATS card valid.
  • Must be dependable with good to excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Construction industry experience knowledge or training required.
  • Must be able to regularly lift to 75lbs.
  • Must be able to withstand various climate conditions including extreme heat and humidity.
  • Must have excellent communication and listening skills.
  • Must have a clean MVR.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
