JOB SUMMARY:
The RWA Well Services LLC team at Water System Specialties is seeking a motivated, hands-on Well Pump & Water Treatment Apprentice eager to build a high-demand trade career in Connecticut's water sector. In this role, you will work directly alongside licensed master technicians and journeypersons to learn the mechanics of residential and commercial well water systems.
This position is a structured path to earning your trade license while getting paid for hands-on field experience.
Responsibilities:
Technical Support & On-the-Job Learning
  • Pumps & Pressure Systems: Assist in pulling and installing submersible well pumps, replacing pressure tanks, setting pressure switches, and setting up variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Water Treatment Systems: Help install, commission, and maintain water softeners, neutralizers, iron/manganese filtration units, UV systems, and reverse osmosis (RO) systems.
  • Plumbing & Piping: Learn and execute proper mechanical connections using copper, PVC, PEX, and threaded steel fittings under licensed supervision.
  • Testing & Diagnostics: Assist technicians in performing well yield/flow tests, taking field water samples (pH, hardness, iron), and collecting lab samples following CT Department of Public Health protocols.

Site Operations & Safety
  • Truck & Inventory Management: Load, inventory, and organize service trucks daily with the tools, pumps, media, and fittings required for scheduled jobs.
  • Tool & Equipment Operation: Safely handle specialized tools, including pipe cutters, soldering/crimping tools, multimeters, and pump hoist rigs.
  • Safety & Cleanliness: Maintain clean, organized job sites, properly dispose of old equipment/media, and strictly observe safety standards (LOTO, electrical safety, confined space and personal protective equipment).

Become proficient and competent to provide quality professional workmanship in this trade. Training in safety and developing good work habits, minimum training hours per CT requirements are 4,000 hours on the job training plus required educational training.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Educational Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent. (Graduation from a CT Technical High School or vocational program is a strong plus).
  • Working toward a J2 license.

Experience/Skills/Abilities:
  • Valid CT driver's license
  • Must be eligible and willing to register as an Apprentice with the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) and complete required related technical instruction (RTI) coursework.
  • Strong basic math skills, comfort working with basic hand and power tools, and an interest in electrical/plumbing systems.
  • Strong ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) and work as a team.
  • Ability to lift 75+ lbs routinely.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, navigating uneven terrain, and working in tight basements or mechanical rooms.
  • Dependable, punctual, and eager to learn a lifelong trade.
  • Clear communication skills when interacting with teammates and property owners.
  • A strong work ethic with a high attention to detail and safety.
