Compensation
At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position in the United States is $79,780-$105,713. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C's annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria. Please note this role may also qualify for sales-related compensation.
Join Our Team as an Application Engineer (Product Application)!
The Sales Organization is responsible for selling S&C products, services and solutions across a broad customer base from customer-owned and investor-owned electric utilities, commercial & industrial (C&I) customers, government agencies, distributors, contractors, consultants, and original-equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The sales organization's objectives include generating revenue, expanding market share and driving business growth.
The Application Engineer is responsible for providing pre-sale support for the application and specification of S&C products on customer systems. The Application Engineer will use foundational and practical knowledge to understand the customer's challenges and goals and help identify standard product solutions that position S&C favorably in support of the order entry goals for a defined geographic region. Through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, the Application Engineer supports technical activities during the early stages of the sales cycle. Activities include application support, delivering routine technical presentations, representing the Company at industry events, and providing guidance on technical inquiries that contribute to converting opportunities into sales.
This is technical role in which the ideal team member will support the sales team using their competency and understanding of the power industry and it's products. This is not a software position.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a pre-sales technical resource for the regional sales team, offering practical knowledge of S&C products and services and responding to technical inquiries promptly and accurately.
  • Support with the regional sales team to continuously seek out information about customer challenges and pain points in support of addressing customer needs and converting opportunities into sales.
  • Respond to simple technical inquiries for standard products, conveying accurate information that supports the customer's needs.
  • Assist Senior Applications team members to recommend and advise on the viability of sales opportunities, leveraging knowledge of S&C's standard product range.
  • Ask effective questions to clarify customer challenges, goals and outcomes and match S&C standard products and solutions with customer specifications, identifying all exceptions, clarifications and deviations for requests for information (RFI's) and requests for quotes (RFQs).
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineering and other departments to provide timely and meaningful responses to customer queries on S&C's standard product range.
  • Attend customer meetings as a technical resources, creating and presenting presentations, insights and solutions and addressing simple questions to progress opportunities forward.
  • Prepare basic-level proposals and technical information for tender submissions.
  • Support the creation of product trial proposals, scoping trial agreements, tracking trial data and presenting the results back to the customer in support of system-wide deployment and sales conversion.
  • Support new product introduction with the regional sales team and support the successful rollout of new products to customers within the region.
  • Assist Senior Sales and Applications team members with providing technical support to Power System Solutions (PSS) concerning applications and customer requirements upon completion of the sale, to inform the project management process for the installation and commissioning phase.
  • Represent S&C at industry events (tradeshows, expos, conferences, lunch and learns, presentation and forums etc.) and support promotional activities through demonstrating products at the S&C booth or Customer Experience Center (CEC).
  • Conduct factory tours and participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to guarantee total customer satisfaction.
  • Deliver simple product overview and insight pitches to customers and internal stakeholders on new products and applications in support of generating new opportunities and business.
  • Assist with reporting on customer and market analysis data obtained throughout the applications support process, and submit product development ideas, new solutions and applications through applicable channels.
  • Entertain customer during and outside of business hours, as appropriate, to establish customer relationships necessary to sell S&C's products and services effectively.
  • Travel regularly (flying and driving up to 80%) in support of sales and applications activities, customer engagement, industry events, and provide off-hours business support.
  • Understand and comply with all applicable company policies and rules.

What you'll Need To Succeed:
  • Valid driver's license in good standing and clean driving record
  • Valid Passport
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a similar technical degree
  • Typically three years of experience within the electrical power industry or equivalent experience.
  • Practical knowledge of electrical power system and experience in an applications, or equivalent role.
  • Foundational knowledge of medium voltage products, familiarity with industry-recognized electrical codes & standards and ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring schematics and specifications.
  • Adequate business acumen and analytical skills with the ability to translate straightforward technical information into solutions, insights and proposals.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to break down routine problems, diagnose, analyze information, seek input from others and present solutions for consideration.
  • Good communication skills (written, verbal, listening and presentation), effective in opening channels of communication, listening to customers' needs and cultivating a healthy, productive and ongoing dialogue.
  • Able to present simple and routine information to a variety of audiences, both small face-to-face interactions and formal presentations.
  • Good interpersonal skills to establish meaningful relationships built on mutual trust and respect, and foster collaborative working relationships amongst a diverse audience.
  • Practical organizational, planning and project management skills, coordinating internal and external resources and juggling several projects and tasks according to priority with the support of leaders and more senior professionals.
  • Good industry knowledge of market trends and competitive landscape, with an ability to assess and consider these factors when supporting sales activities.
  • Ability to travel as required.

Preferred:
  • Knowledge of S&C's sales philosophies and insight messaging techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience in CRM systems (Salesforce desirable) maintaining and leveraging data for reporting purposes
  • Proficient computer skills including experience using Oracle and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
