What is a weekend and evening job?

Weekend and Evening jobs are positions that require employees to work outside traditional weekday business hours, typically during the evenings or on weekends. These roles are often found in industries such as retail, hospitality, healthcare, and customer service, where demand extends beyond the standard 9-to-5 schedule. Many people choose Weekend and Evening jobs for the flexibility they offer, allowing them to balance work with school, family, or other daytime commitments. These jobs can be part-time or full-time and may include shifts that start after regular business hours or cover entire weekends.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a weekend and evening job, and why are they important?

To excel in a Weekend and Evening position, candidates typically need strong time management, reliability, and the ability to handle flexible or non-traditional schedules, along with any relevant experience or education required by the specific role. Familiarity with scheduling software, point-of-sale systems, or industry-specific tools may be necessary depending on the job. Outstanding communication, adaptability, and customer service skills help individuals stand out when working varied shifts or interacting with diverse clients. These skills and qualities ensure consistent performance, excellent service, and the ability to meet employer needs during less traditional hours.

What are some common challenges of working weekend and evening shifts, and how can they be managed effectively?

Working weekend and evening shifts often means adjusting to non-traditional hours, which can impact your work-life balance and social commitments. One common challenge is managing fatigue, especially if shifts extend late into the night. To succeed, it's important to establish a consistent sleep schedule, prioritize self-care, and communicate clearly with your team about availability. Many organizations provide additional support or incentives for off-peak work, making it easier to stay motivated. Effective time management and proactive communication with supervisors can help you make the most of these shifts.

Job description

Weekend/Evening Veterinarian – High-Income Potential & True Work-Life BalanceIndependent, Medicine-Led Practice in Scenic Upstate NY

Are you tired of the corporate cookie-cutter approach to veterinary medicine? Ready for a high-earning role that actually respects your days off?

Copake Veterinary Hospital, located in the breathtaking heart of Columbia County, NY, is seeking an experienced veterinarian to join our thriving, independent, 4-doctor practice. By expanding our evening and weekend hours to better serve our dedicated clientele, we are creating a unique, high-yield role designed for a doctor who thrives on autonomy, clinical excellence, and a schedule that leaves plenty of time for real life.

The Best of Both Worlds: Country Living Meets Culture

Nestled just minutes from the Massachusetts and Connecticut borders, Copake offers an idyllic blend of rural beauty and vibrant culture.

  • For the Outdooring Enthusiast: Hike, bike, ride horses, or boat amidst stunning landscapes. We are a stone's throw from Bash Bish Falls State Park and Catamount Ski Area.
  • For the Culture Seeker: Enjoy the famous farm-to-table culinary scenes of nearby Hudson, NY and Great Barrington, MA, or catch world-class summer concerts at Tanglewood.
  • For the Weekend Traveler: When you want a taste of the big city, both Boston and New York City are within easy driving distance.
Our Philosophy

“We are a medicine-led practice, allowing the quality of our care and the strength of our client relationships to drive our business success, ensuring that the business of veterinary medicine never dictates the way we practice it. We lead with the heart—knowing that while people may forget what we say, they will always remember how we made them feel.”

Why Copake Veterinary Hospital Stands Out

We are proudly independent and AAHA-certified, fiercely committed to a non-corporate future where our team is heard, fairly compensated, and inspired by their environment.

  • Unmatched Leverage (3:1 Staff-to-Doctor Ratio): We fully utilize our support staff to their maximal potential so you can focus on what you do best: diagnosing, treating, and connecting with clients. Your team includes 4 highly skilled LVTs, 2 LVTs-in-training, dedicated assistants, and an incredible client care team.
  • Unhurried, Evidence-Based Medicine: We champion transparent pricing and thorough work-ups, never rushing our doctors or compromising on standards.
  • State-of-the-Art Facility: Our recently renovated hospital boasts 6 exam rooms, a spacious treatment area, digital radiography, ultrasound, a full in-house IDEXX lab, and modern orthopedic drill/plate kits.
  • Advanced Clinical Growth: We actively invest in your professional evolution. We currently perform plate-and-screw fracture repairs and are expanding to offer TPLOs by the end of 2026. If you have a passion for cardiology, endoscopy, or another niche, we will gladly fund the equipment and education to help you build it.
The Role & Schedule

We are looking for an enthusiastic, skilled DVM who is comfortable practicing independently, handles a mix of wellness and urgent care appointments, and has at least 3 years of clinical experience.

We envision a predictable, high-yield 3-day work week (approximately 32 hours total):

  • Friday: 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Saturday: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
  • Sunday: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM

The Ultimate Perk: Work hard for 3 days, then enjoy 4 consecutive days off every single week. No on-call, no overnight emergencies.

Compensation & Exceptional Benefits
  • High Earning Potential: $130,000 - $160,000 base salary (depending on experience) paired with a lucrative 20% production pay structure. Our high demand and efficient staff utilization mean your earning potential is exceptionally high.
  • $20,000 Sign-On Bonus
  • $2,500 "Explore Upstate" Custom Bonus: Choose your own adventure to welcome you to the region! We will fund up to $2,500 toward options like:
    • A season pass to Catamount or Jiminy Peak (with private ski lessons).
    • A Tanglewood season pass for world-class music.
    • Boat, kayak, or paddleboard rentals/guided regional water tours.
    • A rejuvenating weekend getaway at a luxury local inn or resort.
    • Gift cards to savor our world-class regional food scene.
  • Comprehensive Benefits Package: 401(k) with employer match and profit sharing, premium medical/dental/vision insurance, generous PTO, a robust CE allowance, professional dues, and liability coverage.
  • Plus, bring your pet(s) to work!
