What are the typical responsibilities of a weekend analyst?

Weekend Analysts are often responsible for monitoring and analyzing performance data, generating end-of-week reports, and flagging any urgent trends or anomalies to relevant teams. They may also support ongoing projects by providing timely insights, maintaining dashboards, or assisting with ad hoc data requests that arise outside of regular business hours. The role often requires remote or flexible work, and strong communication with weekday staff to ensure smooth handoffs and updates. By handling these responsibilities over the weekend, analysts provide timely information that supports continuous business operations and decision-making.

Job description

As the Senior Business Analyst for our Portfolio Construction team, you will be responsible for overseeing the development and enhancement of our flagship Portfolio Construction product and related Portfolio Management System features. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including analysts and engineers, to ensure that our product meets the high standards expected by our clients and stakeholders. This role requires a strong blend of technical understanding, market knowledge, and analytical skills.
Responsibilities:
Product Design & Delivery
Drive the design of new Portfolio Construction features from initial concept through release, balancing client needs, technical feasibility, and product strategy.
Author clear, detailed functional and technical specifications that engineering can build against with minimal ambiguity.
Partner closely with engineering throughout implementation; clarifying requirements, answering design questions, and making real-time product decisions to keep work on track.
Translate complex investment and portfolio construction workflows into well-structured, buildable requirements.

Quality & Support
Test new and enhanced features prior to release, validating behavior against specifications and real-world use cases.
Guide and support QA in scoping test plans, defining coverage, and prioritizing edge cases.

Client & Cross-Functional Partnership
Partner with internal Sales and Account Management teams to solution the most sophisticated workflows for the firm's most critical prospects and clients.
Act as a subject-matter expert on portfolio construction for both internal stakeholders and client-facing conversations.
Synthesize feedback from clients, prospects, and internal teams to inform the product roadmap and feature prioritization.
Requirements:
5+ years of experience in a product or technical role within finance or tech, ideally at a hedge fund or other investment management firm or related software vendor.
Strong technical ability: advanced Excel analysis, comfort with basic scripting, and enough fluency in code to communicate effectively with and direct developers.
Solid market and domain knowledge, including hedge fund strategies, portfolio construction, trade workflows, and trade allocations.
Working understanding of core risk concepts such as beta and the greeks.
Fixed income knowledge, including duration and interest rate risk.
Familiarity with FX and cash management.
Familiarity with core product management practices, including Agile methodologies and hands-on experience with Jira.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down ambiguous problems into actionable solutions.
Excellent verbal communication skills and a proven ability to draft clear technical specifications for developers.
