Job description

Malibu Boats is seeking a Data Systems Engineer to support, maintain, and enhance the enterprise data systems that power the company's business applications, integrations, and analytics platform. This role serves as the technical bridge between Application Development, Database Administration, and Enterprise Data & Analytics, ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable data solutions across the organization.
The Data Systems Engineer handles supporting the data layer behind internally developed business applications, maintaining enterprise databases, developing integrations, and contributing to the Microsoft Fabric analytics platform. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable troubleshooting production issues, optimizing SQL performance, building data pipelines, and collaborating with technical and business teams to deliver reliable enterprise solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Enterprise Application Data Support & Development
  • Support, maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance the enterprise data layer supporting internally developed applications and integrations.
  • Partner with Application Development to design, develop, and support database components required for application enhancements and releases.
  • Develop and maintain SQL objects including stored procedures, views, tables, functions, and scripts supporting operational applications.
  • Monitor production systems, troubleshoot data and integration issues, analyze logs, identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Build, maintain, and support integrations between ERP systems and enterprise applications using Workato, Scribe, GoAnywhere, APIs, SQL Linked Servers, PowerShell, and related technologies.
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries supporting operational processes, reporting, and troubleshooting.
  • Support SSRS and Power BI reporting solutions used by business teams.
  • Participate in production deployments following established change management processes.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, data lineage, deployment procedures, and operational support documentation.
  • Partner with business users, developers, infrastructure teams, and external vendors to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Ensure solutions comply with IT security standards, SOX controls, and audit requirements.

Database Administration
  • Support administration of enterprise SQL Server and other database platforms across on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Monitor database health, performance, capacity, and availability.
  • Perform performance tuning, index optimization, query optimization, and routine maintenance activities.
  • Support backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and database security processes.
  • Manage database permissions and user access.
  • Assist with database upgrades, migrations, and environment refreshes.
  • Design and maintain efficient database structures and data models.
  • Support audit requests and ensure compliance with organizational security standards.
  • Evaluate emerging database technologies and recommend improvements.

Enterprise Data & Analytics Support
  • Support the Enterprise Data & Analytics platform built on Microsoft Fabric.
  • Develop and maintain Fabric pipelines, Dataflows, Lakehouses, Warehouses, Notebooks, and related platform components.
  • Assist with migration of legacy ETL processes and enterprise data marts into Microsoft Fabric.
  • Develop and support semantic models, datasets, and Power BI reporting solutions.
  • Validate data quality, consistency, and integrity across enterprise reporting environments.
  • Support workspace administration, deployment pipelines, governance, capacity monitoring, and security within Fabric.
  • Document enterprise data models, metadata, and lineage.
  • Partner with analysts and business stakeholders to translate reporting requirements into scalable enterprise data solutions.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience supporting enterprise data systems, databases, or business applications.

Preferred
  • 5-7 years of experience in SQL development, enterprise database administration, data integration, or analytics engineering.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, ERP, or enterprise business systems.
