Job description

Overview
  • The Adventure Clubs Camping Facilitator is responsible for attending and supervising Adventure Clubs weekend campouts, ensuring safety and upholding YMCA policies, procedures, and values.
    The Facilitators will be the Y representative supporting the parents and children while on their Adventure Clubs campouts. They will drive to different campgrounds all across Southern California and will be camping in a tent for the weekend. The Facilitator is responsible for first aid/CPR, communicating with the Program Director, ensuring families are following Adventure Clubs Code of Conduct and working with the campground venue staff.

    Schedule
    • Campouts are once a month from August 2026 - May 2027
    • Facilitator needs to be available for the specific weekends, Friday starting at 12pm - Sunday at 12pm

Responsibilities
  • Attend weekend Adventure Clubs family campouts
  • Coordinate with volunteer leadership to ensure safety and program standards are met
  • Monitor safety and behavior throughout weekend
  • Work collaboratively with volunteers and participants to problem solve and resolve conflict
  • Represent the Y at campouts with a positive and approachable demeanor
  • Research possible camping/activities facilities
  • Provide campout reports to Director upon return from campout and provide follow-up as needed
  • Follow and maintain standards, guidelines, objectives, and goals of the Adventure Club programs
  • Ability to relate well to both children and adults
  • Ability to provide leadership and stability for program continuity
  • Ability to communicate effectively to individuals with diverse experiences
  • Ability to adequately observe participants, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 2+ years' working with youth & families
  • Sincere interest in and ability to work with groups of campers ages 5-16, as well as parents and staff of diverse ethnic populations
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation
  • CPR and First Aid certification required prior to working with participants and must be from one of the following certifying organization:
    • American Red Cross
    • American Heart Association
    • American Safety & Health Institute
