Job description

The Newborn Hearing Screening Technician at Advent Health Littleton and Advent Health Castle Rock assists nurses, physicians, and other clinical staff with hearing screen related processes by performing newborn hearing screening using automated technology. The technician provides education to parents pertaining to the relevance of hearing screening and early intervention, and records patient information and hearing screen results. Duties are performed in collaboration with the patients' medical team and may be performed independently and/or under the supervision of a clinical professional, licensed audiologist and/or Registered Nurse (RN). This role is responsible for performing standard hearing screening primarily at birthing hospitals that aids in the diagnosis and treatment of infant hearing loss. Newborn Hearing Screening Technicians ensure continuous support for clinical operations, aligning schedules to meet the demand of requested services.

Duties & Responsibilities
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.
  • Performs newborn hearing screening using Automated Auditory Brainstem Response (AABR) technology in the nursery and NICU on all infants prior to discharge from the hospital.
  • Coordinates and completes post-discharge follow up care as needed utilizing appropriate procedures.
  • Answers general questions and inquiries from families regarding the hearing screen procedure, results, and care plan.
  • Works directly with nursing staff, patients, and families providing education on the importance of hearing screening, early detection of hearing loss, and monitoring guidelines for related risk factors to support positive outcomes.
  • Utilizes EPIC to determine census, prioritize babies for screening and document all hearing screening results.
  • Maintains hearing screening equipment within clinics which may include maintaining files, stocking exam room, and hearing screening supplies.
  • Builds and maintains strong working relationships with multidisciplinary healthcare providers to provide individualized patient/family care and education.
  • Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment utilizing policies and procedures related to infection control, standard precautions, and risk management.
  • May conduct phone triage for follow up on current and/or discharged patients
  • Adheres to applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that govern the nursery, NICU and Audiology Departments.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience:
    • One (1) years of healthcare related experience
  • Certification(s):
    • BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire.
