Behavioral Support Technician - Crisis ServicesQuick Snapshot

Pay: Starting at $23.00/hour, with experience-based pay available
Employment Type: Full-time and part-time opportunities available
Schedule: Flexible scheduling with weekend availability required
Staffing Model: 2 staff supporting 1 client
Experience: No previous experience required; relevant experience is preferred

Build Your Experience While Making a Meaningful Impact

The Arc of the Ozarks is looking for Behavioral Support Technicians to join our Crisis Services team.

This role provides hands-on support to individuals with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and significant behavioral support needs. Some individuals may experience behavioral escalations that require a calm, consistent, and team-based response.

You do not need previous behavioral health or disability-services experience to apply. We provide paid training to prepare you for the role. Experience with developmental disabilities, behavioral support, mental health, caregiving, or similar work is preferred because of the level of support provided.

Most importantly, you will not be handling these situations alone. Our Crisis Services program operates with a 2:1 staffing model, meaning two team members support one client.

What You'll Do

As a Behavioral Support Technician, you will work alongside another team member to provide individualized support that promotes safety, independence, and skill development.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting daily living skills such as hygiene, meal preparation, cleaning, shopping, and community activities
  • Teaching and reinforcing communication, coping, and independent-living skills
  • Following individualized behavior support and crisis-prevention plans
  • Recognizing signs of escalation and responding with appropriate verbal de-escalation and redirection
  • Providing calm, consistent support during challenging behavioral situations
  • Observing and documenting behaviors, progress, and significant events
  • Supporting individuals in their homes and within the community
  • Collaborating with teammates, supervisors, and other members of the individual's support team
  • Helping maintain a safe, respectful, and person-centered environment
Schedule and Availability

We have both full-time and part-time opportunities available and can offer flexibility when building schedules around program needs and employee availability.

Weekend availability is required to be considered for this position.

Candidates should also be able to attend weekday/daytime training during their first two weeks of employment.

Specific hours and scheduling options can be discussed with our Talent Acquisition team during the interview process.

Paid Training and Support

You do not need to come into this role knowing everything. We provide paid training designed to prepare you to confidently and safely support the individuals we serve.

Training may include:

  • CPR and First Aid
  • MANDT verbal and physical de-escalation
  • Level One Medication Aide
  • Paraclete training
  • Individualized behavior support and safety procedures
  • Additional Arc-specific training and ongoing support

Because individuals in this program may have significant behavioral support needs, you will learn how to recognize escalating situations, follow established support plans, and respond as part of a team.

Our 2:1 staffing ratio means you will have another staff member working alongside you while providing direct client support.

What We're Looking ForRequired
  • At least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Weekend availability
  • Ability to attend required weekday/daytime training during the initial training period
  • Valid driver's license
  • Reliable personal vehicle and current auto insurance
  • Ability to obtain a Missouri Class E driver's license
  • Ability to complete all required training
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to remain calm and follow established procedures during behavioral escalations
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds and perform the essential physical functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation
Preferred, But Not Required

Previous experience supporting individuals with:

  • Intellectual or developmental disabilities
  • Autism
  • Behavioral or mental health needs
  • Significant or challenging behaviors

Related experience may come from direct support, caregiving, behavioral health, ABA, residential services, healthcare, special education, mental health, or other human-services settings.

No previous experience? We still encourage you to apply if you are comfortable learning, working as part of a team, and supporting individuals through challenging situations.

Pay and Growth
  • Starting pay of $23.00 per hour
  • Experience-based pay available for qualified candidates
  • Annual wage increase opportunities
  • Retirement plan with up to a 4% employer match after one year
  • Paid training and certifications
  • Opportunities for continued learning and internal advancement

Full-time and part-time benefit eligibility may vary based on employment status and hours worked.
