Job description

Pre-op/Pacu Rn

The Pre-op/PACU RN is responsible for the pre-operative and post-operative care of the surgical patient for the department. Multidimensional responsibilities include patient/family teaching and patient care throughout the pre-anesthesia and post-anesthesia recovery phases of care. The registered nurse in Pre-op/PACU is involved in the assessment, nursing diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of perceived, potential or actual problems associated with anesthesia agents and surgical procedures.

Qualifications

Minimum education: Graduate of an accredited Nursing program.

Minimum work experience: Minimum of one year acute care experience as an RN preferred. Recent working experience in pre-op/PACU preferred. Critical care background preferred.

Required licenses/certifications: Current licensure in Texas as a Registered Nurse. Certified in Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association. ACLS and PALS required within 6 months of employment. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.

Required skills, knowledge, and abilities: Excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of professionalism during stressful times. Strong critical thinking skills. Strong IV therapy skills are preferred.
