Who We Are

At Penny Mustard, we don’t just sell furniture; we equip our customers to invest in quality that lasts a lifetime to create homes they love. We are a family-owned business built on Midwest grit that values craftsmanship, honesty, and “raving fan” service. When you join our team, you’re joining a group of people dedicated to doing things the right way, not the easy way.

Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and personable Sales & Design Specialist to join our showroom team. In this role, you are not just selling furniture; you are helping customers invest in quality pieces that are custom-built to last a lifetime.

You will guide customers through the full design and sales experience, including product selections, custom specifications, order accuracy, and follow-up. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships, solving problems, and creating a “raving fan” customer experience.

Success requires consultative selling, creative thinking, strong follow-through, and technical precision. This is a strong fit for someone who wants paid training, a premium product to represent, and the opportunity to grow earnings through sales performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Consultative Sales: Engage with showroom visitors to understand their home needs and guide them through custom wood, finish, and upholstery selections.
  • Order Integrity: Audit and finalize all custom order specifications. You are responsible for ensuring that what the customer dreams of is what gets sent to the manufacturer.
  • Pipeline Management: Proactively follow up with leads and maintain communication with customers regarding their order status and lead times.
  • Showroom Excellence: Maintain the aesthetic standards of the showroom floor, ensuring price tags are accurate and displays are guest-ready at all times.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Operations team to ensure a seamless transition from the sale to the delivery.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to walk the furniture showroom floor for extended periods to engage with visiting customers.
  • Clearly communicate complex custom options and lead-time expectations to customers.
  • Maintain high attention to detail when entering technical codes for materials and finishes.
  • Ability to navigate and use POS (Point of Sale) systems and lead-tracking software

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: 2+ years in high-end retail, consultative sales, or interior design.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a focus on "raving fan" service.
  • Detail: Proven track record of managing complex tasks with high accuracy.

Benefits

  • Financial: 401(k) retirement plan with company matching.
  • Health: Medical & Dental Insurance options, including a Health Savings Account (HSA).
  • Vacation: Paid Time Off (PTO) and paid training.
  • Perks: Generous employee discount on our American-made, heirloom-quality furniture.
