Job description

Position title: Medical Administrator

Location: Stennis Space Center, Mississippi

Clearance required: SECRET

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Plan, manage, develop, and maintain a medical records program.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for processing medico-legal documents, insurance and correspondence requests, and for the documentation, storage, and retrieval of medical records information in accordance with Federal, State, and local statutes.
  • Advise management and staff on medical records procedures and problems and provide solutions.
  • Advise staff members or research investigators on methods for recording and retrieving health care data for special studies and perform data retrieval.
  • Coordinate with appropriate personnel to manage, supervise, and perform administrative work related to the admission, treatment, transfer, and discharge of patients.
  • Design, conduct, and test an in-service education program for medical records employees, medical staff, students, and other healthcare personnel.
  • Plan, organize, implement, and test the hospital's medical records utilization review, quality assurance, and risk management programs.
  • Advise on the design, development, and evaluation of automated systems to meet the technological needs for information required to manage resources.
  • Plan for, justify, test, and advise on the use of computer technology for collecting healthcare information, statistical data, and managing a medical records program.
  • Plan, organize, and evaluate the facility's case mix and systems for resource allocation.
  • Review and analyze information from data systems and provide recommendations for more efficient use of resources.
  • Make projections on the growth of the medical records system and implement design changes to accommodate program expansion.
  • Must possess comprehensive knowledge of medical records management and administrative principles, practices, and procedures necessary to plan, manage, and maintain a medical records program.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement policies and procedures for processing medico-legal documents, insurance requests, and correspondence in compliance with Federal, State, and local statutes.
  • Proven experience in program and project management, including the ability to develop detailed plans, establish objectives, and manage short- and long-range planning activities.
  • Familiarity with government and agency budget systems and an acute awareness of the cost of medical equipment, supplies, and services.
  • Experience in designing, conducting, and testing in-service education programs for medical records employees and other healthcare personnel.
  • Ability to plan, organize, implement, and test a facility's medical records utilization review, quality assurance, and risk management programs.
  • Experience advising on the design, development, and evaluation of automated systems and computer technology for managing healthcare information.
  • Must possess knowledge of legal principles, regulations, and standards for the control and use of medical records, including handling subpoenas and assessing risk.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and analyze data from information systems and provide recommendations for the efficient use of resources.
  • Experience serving on hospital committees and contributing to policy decisions impacting medical records management.
