Sr. Project Engineer, Building and Construction - York, PA

What are we looking for?

The Sr. Project Engineer is responsible for leading building product evaluation and certification projects, including technical assessments, engineering analysis, code research, and client communication to determine compliance with applicable building codes, standards, and certification requirements.

What you'll do:

  • Assume complete responsibility including project management for building product evaluation projects including lead engineer for project teams
  • Conduct research of building codes, regulations, product standards, manufacturing methods, and quality control systems as necessary to assess conformance with building codes and standards for building materials, products and methods of construction
  • Develop product test plans based upon research findings
  • Communicate with clients on building codes, test preparation, procedures, test results, plant audits and reporting matters
  • Perform engineering analysis of test results to assess product performance
  • Perform engineering analysis in accordance with standard design methods
  • Create comprehensive reports of product evaluations substantiating conformance with codes and related product standards
  • Develop quality control documentation and conduct manufacturing plant audits for Intertek certified products
  • Provide supervision and guidance to entry-level and intermediate engineering and technical staff
  • Travel based on the needs of the business
  • Maintain personal knowledge and skills necessary to remain current with industry
  • Represent Intertek with participation in industry associations and, codes and standards technical committees

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelors' degree in engineering (Civil, Structural, Mechanical or similar) or closely related field of physical science
  • E.I.T. or technically equivalent experience
  • Experience in the field of building design and construction or building product development
  • Knowledge of the U. S. Building Codes and standards

  • Ability to read, understand and apply new test methods and procedures for assigned projects

  • Technical competence to effectively communicate test procedures, specifications, and results with customers while possessing skills in diplomacy conducive to working with clients through technically challenging compliance issues

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team

  • Good technical writing skills
  • Must be detail-oriented, accurate, and reliable
  • Project management skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Follow and enforce safety requirements and company policies
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Valid driver's license and reliable driving record is required

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.)
  • Experience within the Testing, Inspection and Certification Industry
  • Leadership skills sufficient to supervise subordinate engineers and related technical team members
