Required Skills & Certifications:
- Active Registered Nurse license.
- Minimum 2 years experience in ER, ICU, or PACU.
- Certification in ACLS, BLS, NIH, PALS, and Phase I PACU.
- Proficient in dysrhythmia recognition and management, starting IVs, airway assessment, and pain management.
- Competence in obtaining operative/procedural consents and performing straight urinary catheterization.
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic medical record system.
- Ability to respond to on-call shifts within 30 minutes.
- Previous charge nurse experience.
- Experience with arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care, phlebotomy, and PICC line management.
- Familiarity with a wide range of surgical specialties including bariatrics, cardiac, neuro/spine, ortho/total joints, plastics, robotics, thoracic, urology, and vascular surgery.
- Experience with anesthesia types including conscious sedation, epidural, general, monitored anesthesia care (MAC), nerve blocks, and spinal anesthesia.
- Knowledge of hyperglycemia/hypoglycemia protocols, PCA pump management, RASS scoring, and respiratory care such as chest tube management and end-tidal CO2 monitoring.
- Must have Pre-Op and PACU experience; no first-time travelers accepted.
- Required to take 2-3 night call shifts per month with 30-minute callback availability.
- Call shifts cover weekdays 2200-0500 and weekends with 12-hour shifts starting at 0600 and 1800.
- Float between Pre-Op and PACU units, with occasional float to outpatient surgery centers.
- Work in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment with variable start times based on surgical cases.
- Scrubs provided (royal blue).
- Unit staffed 24/7 with a busy robotic surgery program and total joint orthopedic surgeries.
- 12-hour shifts primarily; Pre-Op shifts start at 0500, PACU shifts start between 0800-1000 on weekdays.
- Weekend coverage includes four RNs with shifts starting at 0600 and 0800.
- Night shifts available Monday through Thursday from 2000 to 0430, and weekends 12-hour shifts starting at 1800.
- Call shifts required 2-3 times monthly, with exceptions for those regularly working night or weekend shifts.
