MARION E. WADE CENTER
Manager of Publications and Publicity
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of the Wade Center, this position serves as the managing editor of the Marion E. Wade Center's new and ongoing publication projects and helps to publicize programming at the Wade Center. This position is full-time, year round and pays in the range of $57,000 - $62,000 annually.
Duties:
Editorial work:
  • Helps launch and serves as managing editor for a literary journal focused on the seven Wade authors. This includes intake and evaluation of submitted articles and reviews, email correspondence with authors and advisory board readers, and formatting of text.
  • Fulfills general editorial responsibilities including permissions requests, copyright registration, as well as coordination of publication details with the printer. Oversees copy editing and proofreading.
  • Oversees publication's online and digital platforms as well as fulfillment of subscriptions.

Publicity:
  • Helps develop and manage the Wade Center's media presence (e.g., the Wade Center's blog, website, Facebook page, Instagram page, BoxCast, YouTube channel, LinkedIn profile, "Friends of the Wade" newsletter, Mailchimp emails.)
  • Assists in creating content and materials for Wade Center marketing and promotion, including fundraising.

Additional responsibilities:
  • Offers periodic support during Wade Center events. Requires occasional evening work.
  • Offers periodic support to reading room and front desk staff.
  • Availability to work up to three Saturdays per year for Wheaton College's homecoming, family weekend, and commencement.

Professional Qualifications:
  • B.A. required.
  • Excellent writing/editorial skills. Experience editing a literary magazine with experience as managing editor or editor-in-chief preferred.
  • Superior computer skills including expertise with Microsoft Office Suite, graphics experience, and desktop publishing; competency in InDesign or other professional publishing software (e.g., QuarkXPress, Affinity, etc.) required. Familiarity with website content management systems (CMS) highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with experience in publicity, marketing, and social media management preferred.
  • Project management and organizational skills. High level of attention to detail.
  • Academic research skills and experience.
  • Background and interest in the writings of the Wade authors preferred.

About The Marion E. Wade Center
The Marion E. Wade Center houses a major research collection of the books and papers of seven British authors: Owen Barfield, G.K. Chesterton, C.S. Lewis, George MacDonald, Dorothy L. Sayers, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Charles Williams. These writers are well known for their impact on contemporary literature and Christian thought. Combined, the Wade authors produced over four hundred books, including novels, drama, poetry, fantasy, children's books, and Christian treatises.
  • The Wade Center has more than 20,000 volumes including first editions and critical works. Other holdings on the seven authors include letters, manuscripts, audio and video recordings, artwork, dissertations, periodicals, photographs, and related materials.
  • The Wade Center's museum includes such pieces as C.S. Lewis' family wardrobe and writing desk, Charles Williams' bookcases, J.R.R. Tolkien's desk, Pauline Baynes' original map of Narnia, and more. Photographs, rare books and manuscripts, and other small items of memorabilia complete the displays.
  • The Wade Center supports researchers from around the world, holds regular lectures and book talks, hosts a podcast, facilitates a continuing scholars program, and more.
