Job description

Position Summary:

The Health Supervisor is responsible for monitoring, supervising, and facilitating the health and safety of campers, volunteers, and staff in accordance with the standards of the State, ACA, and Girl Scouts under the supervision of a licensed physician. This is a seasonal position that will require living on site at Mah-Kah-Wee Program Center. Attendance and participation in training, setup, and cleanup weeks are required.
Essential Duties amp; Responsibilities:
Administer care and monitor for illness and accidents under the supervision of a licensed physician.
Responsible for maintaining effective health and safety guidelines for the infirmary, its equipment and maintenance, standing orders, contacting the doctor on call, and the hospital.
Responsible for making and attending an appointment with the camp physician to review and receive his/her signature on the current standing orders during pre-camp.
Follow all safety guidelines to help prevent the spread of illness.
Facilitate staff and camper health checks upon arrival.
Collect and record only prescription medications in original containers brought to camp.
Establish and maintain regular infirmary hours, including medication times, and note where in camp you are located if not at the health center.
Perform weekly checks of unit and program area first aid kits to ensure proper stock and placement throughout camp.
Record treatment and medication administered to campers and staff in Campdoc.
Maintain clean bedding and towels for the infirmary, and launder soiled items for campers as needed.
Notify Camp Leadership Team when parent, physician, or Urgent Care contacts are initiated.
Dispense medication as instructed by the physician. If parents give alternate directions, confer with the physician and follow the physician’s directions.
Assist with opening and closing camp, including inventories.
Take precautions to ensure personal health.
Complete and submit all required paperwork and reports to the Camp Leadership Team as directed
Carry out all other duties assigned by the Director of Outdoor Program amp; Camp.
Respond to all emergencies and crisis situations as needed.
Enforce all camp rules and policies.
Participate in all camp events, staff meetings, and other activities.
Be a role model; maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude.
Establish and maintain a good working relationship with all staff.
Complete all assigned training modules prior to arrival.
Other duties as assigned by the Camp Leadership Team.
Education and Experience:

Minimum of 21 years of age.
Prior experience caring for children and adults.
Ability to communicate and provide necessary instructions to campers and staff in a group setting.
Ability to think clearly and take charge in an emergency.
Current certification as a licensed registered nurse, certified paramedic, licensed physician, licensed physician’s assistant, certified EMT, certified nurse practitioner, or equivalent.
Successful clearance of a Level 2 Criminal Background Screening, the National Sexual Offender Public Website, and completion of GSUSA Girl Scouts Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Course.
A willingness to adhere to the principles expressed in the Promise and Law.
The acceptance and understanding that employment is at an overnight camp and that, therefore, work hours are irregular.
A willingness to live, work, and sleep in a community environment within an outdoor setting.
Demonstrate sensitivity to campers' needs and mental well-being.
Demonstrate enthusiasm, patience, self-control, and the ability to adapt well to changing situations.
Have a current GSUSA membership or be willing to obtain one prior to beginning work.
Must submit a current Health Examination signed by a medical professional prior to the first day of pre-camp.
Preferred:

Experience in Girl Scouting
Bi-lingual (Spanish and English)
Previous experience working with youth in a group or camp setting
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Ability to work for long hours standing, walking, and/or sitting while being exposed to the sun, heat, wildlife, and varying weather conditions daily.
Ability to occasionally climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
