Position Summary:
The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for serving meals, prepared by our food service vendor, to campers and staff. This position is also responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen and dishwashing area. This is a seasonal position at Mah-Kah-Wee Program Center. The Kitchen Assistant may live at camp Sunday through Friday or commute each day. Attendance and participation in training, setup, and cleanup weeks are required.
Essential Duties amp; Responsibilities:
Adhere to daily procedures pertaining to food service operations.
Serve meals according to weekly menus, including pack-out meals.
Understand and follow all health and safety regulations according to GSC, ACA, local, and state regulations. This includes personal health and wellness, and reporting any communicable condition that may occur.
Ensure that all deliveries are checked in and put away in a timely manner, that inventory is maintained, and that food waste is regulated and logged accordingly.
Assist with daily routine care, maintenance, cleanliness, and storage of all equipment and food preparation and storage areas. Ensure all items are dated accordingly.
Set up food, supplies, and utensils for meals, snacks, and special events.
Wash all dishes, serving and preparation equipment, and utensils according to regulated washing methods and temperatures.
Participate in all camp events, staff meetings, and other activities.
Complete and submit all required paperwork and reports as directed.
Complete all assigned training modules prior to arrival.
Other duties as assigned by the Camp Leadership Team.
Education and Experience:
Must be at least 18 years of age and have a High School Diploma or GED.
Must hold a current Food Handlers Certification or become certified prior to the start of camp.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a food service environment and/or a degree/certificate in related field.
Successful clearance of a Level 2 Criminal Background Screening, the National Sexual Offender Public Website, and completion of GSUSA Girl Scouts Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Course.
Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR.
A willingness to adhere to the principles expressed in the Promise and Law.
The acceptance and understanding that employment is at an overnight camp and that, therefore, work hours are irregular.
A willingness to live, work, and sleep in a community environment within an outdoor setting.
Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs and mental wellness of campers.
Demonstrate enthusiasm, patience, self-control, and the ability to adapt well to changing situations.
Have a current GSUSA membership or be willing to obtain one prior to beginning work.
Must submit a current Health Examination signed by a medical professional prior to the first day of pre-camp.
Preferred:
Experience in Girl Scouting
Experience working with youth in a group or camp setting
Bi-lingual (Spanish and English)

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Ability to work for long hours standing, walking, and/or sitting while being exposed to the sun, heat, wildlife, and varying weather conditions daily.
Ability to occasionally climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
