Position Summary

The Part-Time Banquet Captain plays a key leadership role in executing private events, weddings, and group functions at Black Walnut Inn. This position is responsible for supervising banquet service staff during events, ensuring proper setup and breakdown, and delivering a seamless guest experience that reflects the Inn’s standards of hospitality, attention to detail, and personalized service.

The Banquet Captain serves as the on-site point of contact during events, coordinating timing, service flow, and guest needs while maintaining a calm, professional presence.

Key Responsibilities

Event Leadership & Execution

  • Lead and supervise banquet servers during assigned events, providing direction and real-time support.
  • Serve as the primary on-site contact for event hosts, planners, and vendors during the event.
  • Ensure banquet events are executed according to the BEO (Banquet Event Order), including timelines, layouts, menu service, and special requests.
  • Coordinate closely with the culinary, bar, and events teams to ensure a smooth service flow.

Service Standards & Guest Experience

  • Deliver elevated, attentive service consistent with Black Walnut Inn’s hospitality standards.
  • Anticipate guest needs and proactively resolve service issues during events.
  • Ensure a professional presentation, adherence to uniform standards, and polished service techniques at all times.
  • Maintain a warm, composed demeanor while handling time-sensitive or high-profile events.

Setup, Breakdown & Operations

  • Oversee event setup and breakdown, including room layouts, tables, chairs, linens, décor, and service stations.
  • Conduct pre-event briefings with banquet staff to review assignments, timelines, and expectations.
  • Ensure all event spaces are clean, organized, and properly reset after each event.
  • Monitor inventory of event supplies and communicate needs to leadership.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, alcohol service, and workplace safety standards.
  • Enforce responsible alcohol service practices in accordance with state and local regulations.
  • Report incidents, guest concerns, or equipment issues to management promptly.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of banquet, catering, or event service experience required.
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience in hospitality preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of food and beverage service standards.
  • Ability to remain calm, organized, and professional in a fast-paced event environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules.
