Dakota State University (DSU) is seeking a skilled storyteller and digital content writer to help shape how prospective students, alumni, employees, and the public experience DSU online. This role is responsible for creating, editing, and optimizing content across DSU's digital platforms, ensuring information is accurate, engaging, and aligned with the university's brand and strategic goals. This is primarily an on-campus, in-person role with hybrid opportunities that follow South Dakota Board of Regents and DSU policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
  • Manage, maintain, edit, and distribute website content in DSU's brand voice, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timeliness.
  • Create, edit, and optimize web content using SEO best practices.
  • Ensure content meets accessibility standards, follows web governance guidelines, and supports an inclusive user experience.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to translate complex information into clear, user-focused content.
  • Analyze content performance and recommend improvements based on user behavior and engagement metrics.
  • Consult with campus partners to identify content needs and develop effective digital communication solutions.
  • Occasionally, collaborate with colleagues on additional communications, including media releases, magazines, newsletter content, video storytelling, etc., as time allows.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with demonstrated knowledge of AP Style.
  • Strong understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) best practices with a demonstrated ability to create clear, engaging content for various audiences.
  • Experience managing and publishing content within a content management system (CMS).
  • Knowledge of applicable software such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Willingness to explore and implement emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence tools, to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently on a wide variety of tasks and prioritize competing demands.

Required qualifications:
  • At least two years' experience in journalism, public relations, communications, web writing, or a related setting OR
  • A bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications, web content creation, or a related field, completed by date of application.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
