The Job:


Our Senior Manager, Web Editorial and Writing is a "player/coach" who will lead our small but mighty website team and guide our web content strategy, while also creating content themselves and advising on overarching organization messaging strategy. We're looking for a strategic, solutions-oriented problem solver who has outstanding writing, messaging, proofreading, and fact-checking skills and will thrive in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is a thoughtful people manager with a proven track record of building and managing editorial calendars and cross-departmental relationships. The person in this role will work with global colleagues across departments to produce high-quality content for the Center's website and contribute to the strategy team and communications department. 


The positions will be based in the Center's New York City office in a hybrid model of 3 days in-office, 2 days working from home.  



Primary Responsibilities: 


  • Guide the Center's web editorial and content strategy, and lead the web team to create digestible, accurate content that advances the Center's mission, values, and key priorities. 
  • Authors high-impact, engaging content that supports the Center's strategy and goals. 
  • Manage the factchecking and approvals process across departments for all web content. 
  • Approve all web content before it is published on the site. 
  • Measure impact. Work with the digital team to analyze performance data and use your learnings to optimize future editorial and content.  
  • Actively investigate ways to improve and monitor AEO, SEO and engagement. 
  • Advise on and apply message research and brand awareness tracking. 
  • Lead rapid response efforts on the website with guidance from the Director of Strategic Communications. 
  • Assist as needed the Digital Director as they liase with external developers to troubleshoot technical issues on the site and to create custom web products when needed. 
  • Maintain fluency in digital content best practices and stay abreast of emerging trends. 
  • Build and maintain strong cross-departmental relationships that enable the web team to collaborate effectively with colleagues across the globe. 
  • Create a supportive team culture, and provide thoughtful, hands-on management and coaching to direct reports. 
  • Assist with other strategy team and communications department responsibilities as needed. 
  • Other writing and editorial duties as needed. 

Compensation: The annual salary for this position is $113,730. This salary reflects a position based in New York City or Washington, D.C. This salary will be subject to a downward locality adjustment if authorization is granted to work outside the location listed in this posting. Note that most of the salaries listed on our job postings reflect New York, NY salaries, where our national offices are headquartered. 


Union Status:  This role is not covered by the Center's Collective Bargaining Agreement.


FLSA Exempt Status: This is an exempt position.

Requirements

Qualifications:


  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience, including 6+ years of experience managing aspects of the web editorial presence for high-profile organizations or brands. Nonprofit and/or issue campaign experience is preferred. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Outstanding proofing and editing abilities. Ability to translate complex legal and policy issues into accessible, compelling content for lay audiences.    
  • Strong project management skills. Ability to work independently, successfully manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality deliverables in a fast-paced environment with rigorous standards 
  • Experience in reproductive rights and health is a plus 
  • Proficiency with WordPress or other web platforms.   
  • Proven track record as a dependable, supportive people manager 
  • Fluency with web performance data; Ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions to optimize future content and campaigns 
  • High comfort level with soliciting feedback from multiple stakeholders and incorporating it into your work 
  • Ability to travel

  • A fierce conviction that reproductive rights are human rights
